Part 1
Master the controls and Shard's moves in Endless Legend's Part 1 guide. Learn attacks, maneuvers, and combat mechanics for Ga'Hoole.
This guide covers the general information about the world of Ga'Hoole, game controls, and Shard's various moves in Endless Legend. Guardians of Ga'Hoole is a game based on a book series about anthropomorphic owls fighting evil. You play as Shard, a guardian of the great Ga'Hoole tree, fighting for justice. This game features an off-shoot story from the book series.
Game Controls & Shard's Moves:
- Flying: Rotate the controller up to ascend, away to descend. Left/right turns Shard, and clockwise/counter-clockwise rotation makes Shard bank.
- D-Pad Left: Standard Attack. The primary attack, used to start combos.
- D-Pad Up: Barge Attack (Must be unlocked). Destroys enemy armor and knocks enemies back. Essential for damaging armored enemies.
- D-Pad Right: Throw Attack (Must be unlocked). Grabs, spins, and launches enemies in a direction. Can be used to throw enemies into the environment (like fire or water) or to lose armor by throwing them into terrain. Acts as a counterattack when timed correctly.
- D-Pad Down: Send Wingman. Sends a Wingman to attack a targeted enemy. Wingmen do not target bosses, stationary enemies, or armored foes.
- "-" Button: Back flip (Must be unlocked). Turns the Owl to face the opposite direction.
- "+" Button: Pause. Opens and closes the pause menu.
- "1" Button: Target Lock. Locks onto the closest target.
- Move Wii remote left or right quickly: Barrel Roll. Quickly rolls left or right for dodging.
- B Button: Brake. Slows down flight speed.
- B & "2" Buttons together: Corkscrew (Requires 1 Prowess unit). A spinning speed boost attack that damages enemies. Unlocked in the second mission in the Desert of Kuneer. Effective against groups.
- "A" Button: Action Button. Used for picking up/releasing Hot Coals, grabbing/releasing for Dive Attack, and stealing/releasing eggs in bonus missions. Also performs other 'claw' actions.
- Spinning Slam: (Requires 1 Prowess unit). Grab an enemy with 'A' when the icon appears, spin towards the ground, and press 'A' again to slam them. Destroys armor. Failing to press 'A' the second time results in self-damage. Takes time but deals high damage. Not effective on most bosses.
- Counter Attack: When targeted by an enemy, a thick red circle appears. Press the indicated D-Pad direction to counter. Alternatively, avoid attacks with a Barrel Roll, sharp dive, obstacle, or Corkscrew. A successful counterattack acts as a regular throw.
- Cross-hairs: Red cross-hairs indicate a target is close enough for an action. Dark gray cross-hairs indicate focus on a distant object.
- Gizzuition Radar: Located in the lower-left corner, shows objectives, enemies, and level edges, including their relative height.
Part 2
Learn about Prowess, Wingmen, items like Hot Coals, and saving in Endless Legend Part 2. Includes Island of Hoole missions.
- 1Some special attack combos require specific directional inputs: left, left, left; left, left, up; left, up, right, left; left, right, left, left.
- 2Prowess is a special energy used for special attacks, gained by defeating enemies or obstacles, and sometimes earned after completing mission sub-tasks.
- 3The Prowess bar has 3 units; each special move consumes 1 unit.
- 4You can get up to 3 Wingmen who assist in battle, indicated by green bird icons under your status bar (red means unavailable).
- 5Wingmen are readied as your Prowess bar fills. Press 'Down' on the directional pad to send a Wingman to attack a targeted enemy.
- 6Wingmen engaged in a previous attack will not be ready until their current assault is finished, even if your Prowess is replenished.
- 7Enemies killed by Wingmen do not grant Prowess or Coins (Shinies).
- 8Attacking enemies targeted by a Wingman is considered a 'Team Attack'.
- 9You can steal the 'Killing Blow' from a Wingman to earn Prowess/Coins for that kill.
- 10The 'Safe' Indicator appears in the bottom left of the HUD (Heads-Up Display) during certain missions, showing proximity to a target. Bright Green is Safe, Brown is OK, and an Exclamation Point or Red indicates too far or too close.
- 11Hot Coals are found in Braziers and can be picked up by flying towards them and pressing 'A', granting 2 Hot Coals.
- 12Hot Coals can be thrown at flying enemies or installations by pressing 'A' when a red target appears. You cannot perform regular attacks while holding Hot Coals, but Counterattacks will set enemies aflame.
- 13Some missions feature 'Fire Carriers', owls carrying baskets of Hot Coals instead of braziers.
- 14Coins (Shinies) are used to pay for Armor and each collected coin gives a slight boost to your Prowess.
- 15Enemy kills create Coins that lock-on to you and increase temporary Prowess.
- 16Wind Tunnels are conal-shaped tunnels that provide a massive speed boost to you and/or enemies, moving from the cone to the tube.
- 17Sandstorms are tornados of sand appearing only in the desert of Kuneer, throwing you off course and potentially causing light damage if you run into them.
- 18Fleck Beams are blue "lightning" that make flying difficult and have a magnetic effect, pulling you into emitting towers if you are too close.
- 19Scrolls appear in Bonus Missions and each opens an image in your Gallery. There are 25 total (5 per area). The Distance Indicator guides you to a Scroll when you are within its range.
- 20Battlesets offer bonuses: Training Claws (Free, no bonus), Swift Steel (Tiny Attack, small Defense, decent Speed), Valor Rose (Small Attack/Defense, decent Prowess), Diamond Dash (Decent Attack, large Defense, highest Speed), Golden Heart (Large Defense/Attack, decent Health), Burning Spirit (Full Defense, large Attack, Full Prowess), and Iron Fortitude (500 Shinies, Full Attack/Defense/Health).
- 21Saving is automatic; the game saves upon finishing a Story Mission or a Bonus Mission in an already-cleared area.
- 22To ensure a save, complete an easy Bonus Mission like a Speed Race after collecting items or scrolls.
- 23[9.1] The Island of Hoole - Beginning Mission: When you gain control of Shard, follow Allomere around the tree and enter the Wind Tunnels. After the cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically), grab Hot Coals from a Brazier and use them on the object in front. After another cutscene, grab Hot Coals from a Fire Carrier and light all four torches. After a third cutscene, kill the 2 bats. Learn to counterattack, then fight and defeat six more bats to end the level.

- Use Wind Tunnels for rapid traversal.
- Trigger an Auto-Save by completing a Bonus Mission after collecting important items like shinies or scrolls.

- 1[9.2] Desert of Kuneer
- [9.21] An Ally in the Sand: Rescue the eagle Streak from Crows. Dispatch bats, follow a marked path through sandstorms, free Streak by destroying cage supports, and defeat remaining Crows.
- 2[9.22] Desert Eagle: Follow Streak to Bat Sanctuaries. Destroy each sanctuary (catapult destruction not required) and defeat appearing bats. Defeat all five bats in the final section, along with two Pure Ones, to end the mission.
- 3[9.23] Thieves in the Night: Follow bats carrying Owlets, getting close enough to steal them. Return Owlets to Streak's nest using Wind Tunnels. Dodge Bat attacks during returns. Repeat three times.
- 4[9.24] Into the Hideout: Take Hot Coals from the center and hit each hideout twice. Destroy 8 Hideouts, then kill 7-8 attacking Bats.
- 5[9.25] The Chieftain Strikes: Use Hot Coals to destroy 6 towers (two hits each). After towers are destroyed, defeat the Bat Chieftain and Bat Scouts using Hot Coals. Only the chieftain needs to be defeated.
- 6[9.26] Desert of Kuneer Bonus Missions: Owlet Rescue, Bombing, Survival, Speed Flying.
- 7[9.3] The Forest Kingdom of Tyto
- [9.31] Pure Ones Pursuit: Follow Pure Ones to their hideout, maintaining a specific distance. After reaching the destination, kill nine enemies and cut five Tytos loose from cages. Speed towards the resistance hideout, avoiding enemies and using Wind Tunnels and Corkscrew.
- 8[9.32] Resistance Evacuation: A difficult mission where 3 of 5 Carriers must survive. Stay near carriers to keep them moving. Defend carriers against waves of enemies. Divide Wingmen to prevent carriers from being swarmed. In the last wave, destroy Scout armor before engaging Wingmen.
- 9[9.33] Lighting the Way: Grab Hot Coals from a Fire-Carrier and light 16-24 lamps. Head East to start. Enemies will appear as more torches are lit. Focus on lighting torches and use Corkscrew to dodge attacks.

- 12[9.36] The Forest Kingdom of Tyto Bonus Missions: Owlet Rescue, Bombing.
Part 4
Complete walkthrough for The Glauxian Brothers Retreat in Endless Legend, covering missions like Race to the Retreat and Allomere's Fury.
- 1[9.41] Race to the Retreat: You must race your Wingmen to the Glauxian Retreat. This is a standard race. If you miss 6 rings, you will fail. Bring along some speed enhancing armor for an easier win. Sometimes it will start you off facing the wrong direction.
- 2[9.42] A Curious Convoy: Follow the bats through the ice narrows, and along their treacherous path. Getting too close to them isn't an issue, so just make sure to hit all the Wind Tunnels. At the destination, prepare to fight 16 enemies, including hagsfiends.
- 3[9.43] Shard to the Rescue: You will have to rescue Glauxian brothers from the cages they are being carried in. Go to the stars on the (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)) then take out all target-able enemies near the Pure One Carrier. After you defeat all the associated enemies, take out the carrier with a single hit. There are five Owls to free total.
- 4[9.44] Battle at the mine: You will be attacked by 3 Pure One Protectors and 4 Hagsfiends. Attack and use your teammates to destroy the threats. After that, fly toward the Fleck Pillars, there is a Hot Coal brazier on the first ridge, and also one up on the higher hills behind the Fleck Pillars. Do not bother with the Hagsfiends, Pure One Protectors or Ballistas. Target each pillar and hit them with 3 hot coals to destroy them. The beams around the Fleck Pillars will pull you in and will make maneuvering very hard, and you will take a lot of damage while losing control. Two of the Fleck Pillars have Ballistas right next to them, which makes targeting the pillars themselves difficult. Destroy the Fleck Pillars quickly to win and get the gold medal.
- 5[9.45] The Queen's Game: This mission is all about defeating the Hagsfiend Queen. She will be alone at first, but will call up a force field by summoning 'Fleck Bats' that carry baskets with flecks to create a force field around her. You will need to defeat 3 Fleck Bats once she summons the force field to remove it temporarily. There will also be Pure One Protectors that will attack you while all this is going on. Focus on the Queen and the Fleck Bats when summoned (they take 1 hit each). To kill the Fleck Bats, either send in your Wingmen after them or attack then stop and hover close to them to re-target for each bat. The Queen is quite hard to follow, and is hard to combo on. DO NOT use the 'Up' Ram move to start a combo, she will deflect it and possibly damage you. Getting a gold here is done easily by defeating most of force field bats and the Queen.
- 6[9.46] The Glauxian Brothers Retreat Bonus Missions: Owlet Rescue, Bombing, Survival, Speed Flying.
- 7[9.51] No Owl Gets Left Behind: Take the Wind Tunnels towards the star on your (radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked)). Your Wingman will be imprisoned by Fleck Bats. Take out 4 quickly to free him. After that, its your team vs eleven assorted enemies.
- 8[9.52] Defense Destruction: Take the Wind Tunnels to the objective, grab the Hot Coals and destroy 4 Catapults. After that, take out the 4 remaining Pure Ones. Travel to the main fort and destroy 4 Catapults and 3 Ballistas. The only source of Hot Coals are in the middle of the tower; strike an installation then loop in for coals, then attack one on the other side. Use Wingmen to fend off the attackers, but don't focus on them yourself.
- 9[9.53] Breaking the Signal: Fly into the foray and locate the Hot Coal Brazier(s), target only the Fleck Pillars -they take 3 hits each- ignore everything else! Use any Prowess you get for Corkscrews. After those 4 are gone, grab more coals and target the Fleck Tower itself. Five hot coal hits will take it down.
- 10[9.54] Clawing Towards the Forge: This level is one huge cavern and you are all alone, with no Wingmen. Fly through the cavern, avoiding the Swinging Obstacles, and go through the gate that opens. Again, you will have to fly to the next gate. Follow the star on the (radar) if you get disorientated. After the second gate, you will have to fight four Pure One Elites in a very small chamber, but only one has armor on. After you've killed them, fly through the next section, which is full of lava. Is is very easy to crash and catch fire in this section. Through the next gate is 6 more enemies in another very small chamber. Afterward, the next is a passage that leads deep into the earth. It is very tight in here especially with the speed you build up.
- 11[9.55] Allomere's Fury: The last mission! You start off in a fiery cavern, with Pure Ones, Hagsfiends, Catapults and Furnaces. Your objective is to destroy the Furnaces with Hot Coals that are sitting high up on ledges. Even higher above these ledges is a circular area with a ring of Shinies in it. When attacking the Furnaces, your shots will fail if there is steam rising from the Furnace. There are 6 surrounding the main spire, and one directly on the spire. After defeating all of them, chase Allomere through the long, winding tunnel. You cannot catch up to him, but there is Hot Coal Braziers placed in the tunnel. When you are close enough hit him with any you pick up - it'll make the last fight easier. Allomere finally stops to fight in a small cavern near the end. Allomere can be hard. He'll counter a lot of your initial attacks; and will attack you often. He'll also throw you often and recover from throws himself very quickly. Break his armor first of all, then keep pounding away until he is no more. You're done here! Sit back and enjoy the ending!

- For [9.44] Battle at the mine, do not bother with the Hagsfiends, Pure One Protectors or Ballistas. Target each pillar and hit them with 3 hot coals to destroy them.

- For [9.53] Breaking the Signal, use any Prowess you get for Corkscrews.
- For [9.54] Clawing Towards the Forge, it is very easy to crash and catch fire in the lava section.
