BELOW KUROSAWA - UNDERGROUND CELLAR

Guide to defeating the Veiled Priest mini-boss in the Underground Cellar of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. Learn his attack patterns and strategies.

You'll find yourself in a large room with a few obstacles, and a staircase leading up. At the top of this staircase is a door to the outside, but it's locked with a Hammer key. Before you worry about that, though, you need to deal with the "owner" of this place.

Phases:

1. The Veiled Priest has a few attacks, primarily striking with his rod or casting three fireballs at you. These fireballs will pursue you for a short time, so your best bet is to just run and dodge until they dissipate. The damage from the blue fireballs isn't too severe, thankfully.
2. His attack pattern is fairly simple to learn. When he raises his rod, he's about to attack. If you aim at him during this wind-up, you'll get a Shutter Chance for a Zero Shot. Take advantage of these opportunities to defeat him quickly.
3. After taking damage, he'll be stunned for a moment before teleporting away. You can't hit him while he's teleporting.
4. Spotting him can be tricky since he wears a black costume that blends into the Finder Mode background. If he disappears, turn off Finder Mode and try to locate him by yourself. The filament can help; when it glows and you see a distorted area, that's him.
5. He'll repeat his actions, so just keep aiming and shooting during his Shutter Chances. Four or five Zero Shots should be enough to defeat him.

Strategy:

• Prioritize dodging his attacks, especially the fireballs.
• Always aim when he raises his rod to get a Shutter Chance.
• If you're having trouble seeing him in Finder Mode, switch it off and rely on the filament and visual cues.
• Use Zero Shots whenever you get the chance for maximum damage.

After you defeat the Veiled Priest, he'll drop a SPIRIT ORB. Grab it, and save your game if you feel the need. Since there's nothing else to do here, it's time to head back to the Warehouse Hallway.
