Managing your inventory is crucial for efficient farming and exploration in Fields of Mistria. Initially, your character will have a limited backpack capacity, which can quickly become a bottleneck as you gather crops, mine ores, and collect various crafting materials. Upgrading your storage solutions is a key early-game objective to avoid frequent trips back to your farmhouse or the General Store.

The primary method for increasing your carrying capacity is through backpack upgrades. These are typically purchased from the General Store, often requiring a certain amount of Gold and potentially specific materials. Keep an eye on the shop's inventory as you progress, as new tiers of backpacks may become available. For instance, an early upgrade might increase your inventory slots from 16 to 24, allowing you to carry more items like Wheat, Corn, and various Foraged Goods.

Beyond your personal backpack, your farmhouse also contains storage chests. These chests serve as a more permanent storage solution for items you don't need to carry on your person but wish to keep for crafting, cooking, or future requests. The initial chests in your farmhouse are also limited in space. Similar to backpack upgrades, you can often expand these chests by interacting with them and fulfilling specific requirements, which might include Gold or rare crafting components. This allows you to store larger quantities of items like Wood, Stone, and even harvested crops before selling them.

Furthermore, certain crafting stations, such as the Apiary and Terrarium introduced in the v0.15.0 update, may have their own internal storage for the items they produce. Understanding the capacity and accessibility of each storage method – your backpack, farmhouse chests, and specialized crafting stations – will significantly streamline your gameplay loop, allowing you to focus more on farming, mining in The Mines, and interacting with the townsfolk like the Priestess.
