Gems and crystals are valuable resources in Fields of Mistria, often used for crafting high-tier items, fulfilling specific requests, and contributing to the Museum Donations. These precious materials are primarily found by mining ore nodes in the Mines, particularly in deeper levels, or by breaking certain rock formations. The v0.15.0 update, which expanded the Mines to include the Ruins, likely introduced new types of gems or increased the drop rates of existing ones in these challenging new areas.

To extract gems, you will need a pickaxe. The higher the tier of your pickaxe, the greater your chance of successfully mining gems from ore nodes. While basic ores might yield common gems, rarer and more valuable crystals are typically found in conjunction with higher-tier ores like Gold or Mistril. Some gems might also be found as loot in chests within the Mines or as rewards for completing difficult quests. For example, a quest to clear out a particularly dangerous section of the Mines might reward you with a rare Amethyst.

Gems serve multiple purposes. They are often required for crafting powerful equipment, such as enchanted tools or decorative items that provide unique buffs. Many characters on the Request Board will ask for specific gems, offering substantial rewards in return. Furthermore, contributing gems to the Museum is a key way to increase the town's prestige and unlock new content. Some gems might also be used in crafting recipes for specialized items, like the Terrarium or Apiary decorations, which are part of the new critter-focused content introduced in recent updates. Always keep an eye out for sparkling ore nodes, as they often indicate the presence of valuable gems.
