New to FFXIV? Learn about the Disciples of War and Magic, the holy trinity of Tank, Healer, and DPS, and how to unlock and level new classes. Get stat point advice!

Hey there, future adventurer! So you're looking to dive into Final Fantasy XIV and figure out what kind of hero you want to be? Awesome! FFXIV, like many Final Fantasy games before it, uses a classic setup called the 'holy trinity'. This means you've got three main roles: Tanks, who are super tough and draw enemy attention; Healers, who keep everyone alive and kicking; and DPS (that's Damage Per Second, or 'deeps' as we call 'em), who dish out the hurt to enemies.

Your journey starts by creating your character and picking your very first class, either a Disciple of War (DoW) or a Disciple of Magic (DoM). Once you hit level 10 and finish your class quest for that level, you'll unlock the ability to switch classes! It's super easy: just head to the guild for the class you want to learn, tell the guildmaster you're ready for the challenge (they're always happy to have new recruits!), and then equip the class's unique weapon. Boom! You're a new class. Keep in mind that each class has its own experience points (XP), so you'll start back at level 1 for each new one. Don't worry, though – unlike some older games, your stats aren't shared across classes, so each one has its own separate progression.

Starting at level 10, you'll also get bonus stat points for each class. The general rule of thumb is to put all these points into your class's most important stat. I'll give you my recommendations for that in the guide below. And hey, if you ever feel like you've messed up your stat allocation, don't sweat it! You don't need to make a whole new character. All three of the Grand Companies sell special items that let you reset your stat points for any class.

As you conquer challenges, you'll earn some pretty cool titles. Clear every level 30 DoW class quest, and you'll snag the title 'Seeker of Blood'. For the DoM side of things, clearing all level 30 class quests earns you 'Seeker of Truth'. Keep pushing, and if you manage to get every DoW class to level 50, you'll be known as 'Warmonger'. And for the ultimate magic users, reaching level 50 with every DoM class grants you the prestigious title of 'Archmage'. Keep at it, and you'll be earning those titles in no time!
