The defense of Dawn begins in earnest on its formidable Outer Walls. This critical early-game encounter tasks you with repelling waves of Kigan forces, working in tandem with the valiant city guards. Success here is paramount, as it dictates the initial momentum of the siege and the safety of the inner city.

Phase 1: Initial Assault

Your primary objective is to hold the line against the initial onslaught of Kigan soldiers. These are standard infantry units, relatively easy to dispatch with well-timed attacks and dodges. Focus on maintaining your position and utilizing the environment to your advantage. The city guards will provide crucial support, drawing aggro and dealing damage, but don't rely on them entirely.

Enemy Types & Tactics

• Kigan Soldiers: The backbone of the Kigan army. They wield basic melee weapons and can be staggered easily. Prioritize eliminating them in groups to prevent being overwhelmed.
• Kigan Archers: Positioned at a distance, these enemies will pepper you with arrows. They are vulnerable but can be a nuisance if left unchecked.
• Warlocks: These are the primary threat during this phase. Expect to face at least three Warlocks throughout the defense. They are identifiable by their glowing magical auras and their potent spellcasting.

Warlock Strategy

Warlocks are the linchpin of the Kigan's offensive. Their spells can deal significant area-of-effect damage and inflict status ailments. It is imperative to interrupt their casting whenever possible.

Recommended Loadout & Abilities

• Weapon: A balanced weapon like the Flintlock Pistol for ranged interruption and a swift melee weapon like the Sabre for close-quarters combat.
• Abilities: Ensure you have a reliable dodge and consider equipping any abilities that offer crowd control or burst damage. The "Quick Shot" ability is excellent for interrupting Warlock spells from a distance.

Dealing with Warlocks: Step-by-Step

1. Identify the Warlock: Listen for their incantations and look for their distinctive magical glow.
2. Close the Distance (Safely): Use your dodge to evade incoming projectiles and reposition yourself.
3. Interrupt Casting: As soon as you are within range, unleash a rapid series of attacks or use a dedicated interruption ability like "Quick Shot." A successful interruption will stagger the Warlock, leaving them vulnerable.
4. Exploit Stagger: Once staggered, close in and unleash your most damaging melee combos.
5. Dodge and Repeat: If the Warlock recovers, back off, dodge their next spell, and repeat the process.

After successfully defending the Outer Walls through several increasingly challenging waves, the objective will dynamically shift. You will be prompted to fall back and prepare for the next phase of the siege, which will involve defending the Inner City.

Potential Pitfalls

• Ignoring Archers: While Warlocks are the primary threat, a constant barrage of arrows can chip away at your health and distract you from more immediate dangers.
• Overextending: Don't get caught too far from the main defensive line, as you could be isolated and overwhelmed.
• Underestimating Warlock Spells: Their AOE attacks can catch you off guard, especially if you're focused on melee combat. Always be aware of your surroundings.
