Customization Options
As the Ghost of Tsushima, your journey to liberate your homeland is as much about your personal style as it is about your combat prowess. Jin Sakai’s appearance can be extensively customized through several armor sets, vanity gear, and dyes, allowing you to tailor his look to your preferred playstyle or simply to reflect your aesthetic preferences. This section will detail the various customization options available and how to acquire them.
Armor Sets & Upgrades
Armor sets in Ghost of Tsushima offer more than just cosmetic changes; they provide unique perks and stat bonuses that can significantly impact your gameplay. Each set can also be upgraded multiple times, enhancing its defensive capabilities and often altering its appearance.
- Acquiring Armor:
- Traveler's Attire: Obtained early in Act 1 during the main story quest, "The Warrior's Code." This armor is invaluable for exploration, as it vibrates when near Artifacts and Guiding Winds lead to collectibles.
- Samurai Clan Armor: Received in Act 1 during the main story quest, "The Tale of Lady Masako." This armor is excellent for direct combat, providing increased defense and Resolve gains.
- Ronin Attire: Acquired in Act 1 during the main story quest, "Blood on the Grass." Ideal for stealth and melee combat, boosting melee damage and reducing enemy detection speed.
- Ghost Armor: Unlocked during Act 2's main story, "From the Darkness." This armor is central to Jin's Ghost persona, significantly reducing enemy detection and increasing terror inflicted on enemies.
- Kensei Armor: Earned by completing all Mythic Tales related to the "Six Blades of Kojiro" in Act 2. This armor enhances Mythic Arts and Resolve gains.
- Sakai Clan Armor: Obtained in Act 2 during the main story quest, "Ghosts from the Past." This armor is a powerful all-rounder, boosting melee damage and Standoff streaks.
- Mongol Commander's Armor: Acquired by liberating all Mongol-occupied territories in Act 3. This heavy armor offers immense defense and reduces incoming damage.
- Upgrading Armor:
- Visit any Armorer found in liberated towns and settlements (e.g., Golden Temple, Akashima Village, Jogaku Temple).
- Upgrades require various resources such as Supplies, Linen, Leather, and Silk. These can be found by looting enemies, exploring the world, and completing quests.
- Each upgrade tier often changes the armor's visual design, adding more intricate details or different color patterns.
Vanity Gear & Accessories
Beyond armor, Jin can equip several vanity items that provide purely cosmetic changes. These include hats, headbands, masks, and sword kits. While they offer no gameplay benefits, they are crucial for personalizing Jin's appearance.
- Hats & Headbands:
- Straw Hat: Many variations exist. Look for them in specific locations, often near scenic views or as rewards for side quests. For example, the Warrior's Sunset Headband is found at the top of the Pagoda at the Golden Temple.
- Headbands: Often found at the summit of Shinto Shrines (e.g., Band of the Second Son from Arrow Peak Shrine, Headband of the Serpent's Breath from Stone Dragon Shrine). Always check the offering box after bowing at the shrine.
- Gosaku's Helmet: Part of the Gosaku's Armor set, acquired after completing the Mythic Tale "The Unbreakable Gosaku."
- Masks:
- Sakai Half Mask: Acquired during the main story quest, "Ghosts from the Past," alongside the Sakai Clan Armor.
- Ghost Mask: Unlocked during Act 2's main story, "From the Darkness," complementing the Ghost Armor.
- Thief's Wrap: Found in Act 1, often in bandit camps or as a reward for specific side quests.
- Sword Kits:
- Sword kits change the appearance of Jin's Katana and Tanto. They do not affect weapon stats.
- Many are found at Pillar of Honor locations scattered across Tsushima. These are distinct monuments marked on your map once discovered. Examples include the Genbu's Darkness kit found at a Pillar of Honor in Izuhara, or the Breath of Hachiman kit in Toyotama.
- Some are rewards for completing specific quests or liberating Mongol camps.
Dyes & Appearance Changes
To further customize your armor and vanity gear, you can apply various dyes. These dyes change the color scheme of your equipped items, offering a vast array of aesthetic combinations.
- Acquiring Dyes:
- Merchants: Most merchants in liberated towns and settlements (e.g., Golden Temple, Akashima Village) sell a selection of dyes for Flowers.
- White Dye Merchant: Located in the western part of Izuhara, near the coast. This merchant exclusively sells white-themed dyes.
- Black Dye Merchant: Found in the southern part of Toyotama, near the coast. This merchant exclusively sells black-themed dyes.
- Exploration: Some dyes are found as loot in specific locations, particularly within Mongol camps or hidden areas.
- Applying Dyes:
- Once acquired, dyes can be applied to compatible armor sets, hats, and masks from the "Gear" tab in your pause menu.
- Navigate to the desired item, select it, and then choose the "Appearance" option to browse available dyes.
Experiment with different combinations of armor, vanity gear, and dyes to create a unique look for Jin Sakai that truly reflects your journey as the Ghost of Tsushima!
