Ace all the Karting School challenges in Gran Turismo 5! Get expert tips and strategies for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced tests to achieve Gold.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Beginner Test 1: Using Drafting to Get Ahead
Simply draft the car in front of you and win the race.
  2. 2
Beginner Test 2: Drafting With Multiple Cars
Get close to the car on the left, hit it gently to push it forward, and stay behind it. At the end of the big turn, pass the last two cars on the outside. If you pass the first two, you'll need to push one of them to catch up to the others.
  3. 3
    Intermediate Test 1: Inside Driving-Daytona
Keep your left tires just outside the yellow line at the bottom. Wiggle slightly to maintain speed. Let the car drift out a bit at the end without hitting cones. Aim for a time under 13.000 seconds. No brakes or car adjustments are needed.
  4. 4
    Intermediate Test 2: Inside Driving-Indianapolis
Adjust the car left at the start to avoid the first cone. Line up left of the cones. As you pass the white wall on the left, let off the gas and turn sharply. Tap the brakes if needed. Aim to drift until your tires touch the inside white line. When speed hits 160mph, accelerate hard left, keeping the car from hitting cones. Ease steering to align with the finish line, maintaining full throttle.
  5. 5
    Intermediate Test 3: Outside Driving-Daytona
Stay in the inside lane. Practice completing the course without disqualification about 10 times. Then, focus on getting as close to the cones as possible. Spend about 80% of the run in the inside lane. Do not let off the gas. Keep movements smooth. Start turning when the pavement darkens and stay in the inside lane for the first 6-7 seconds.
  6. 6
    Intermediate Test 4: Outside Driving-Indianapolis
Position your right tires near the shadow cast by the wall on the right, aligning with the dark bar in the white wall where cones begin. Cut left and ease off the gas (do not brake). Around 160mph, gently accelerate and maintain that speed until the turn exit. Try to drift wide slightly before the exit to avoid the wall. You can brake slightly (down to ~153mph) if necessary.
  7. 7
Advanced Test 1: Raceday: Exiting Pit-lane
For Silver: Immediately cut into the course and get behind the first-place car. The second-place car will hit you, increasing your speed and slowing itself. Race the remaining cars to finish in 2nd place.
For Gold: Accelerate in pit lane until the end, then merge into traffic in 6th place. Draft the car on the left until you can pass it and the next car. Draft the 3rd-place car and pass it immediately.
Tips
  • The Sixaxis controller can make these challenges significantly harder. Patience and luck are key.
  • Jeff Gordon's taunts can be frustrating, especially when hitting cones.
  • For Intermediate Test 2, if you are consistently within .050 of your target time, you likely have the skill and just need luck.
  • For Intermediate Test 4, there is ample time to achieve gold, with the author beating it by .115 seconds.
  • Advanced Test 1 has a 50-second waiting period before you can drive.
