Complete Homeworld 2 Mission 14 by wasting attackers and destroying Makaan's fleet. Learn strategies for success.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Right off the bat, start building 6 Ion Cannons, 6 Torpedo Frigates, and the rest Flak Frigates. Build maximum Bombers and Movers as soon as that is complete. If you do not have 5 Minelayer Corvettes, construct them as soon as possible. Position your Heavy Cruisers in front of your Mothership (MS), your new Frigates just behind them, and your Carrier (coll) repairing any damaged ships. You will be attacked from directly in front with some Destroyers (D's), Frigates, and Fighters. Allocate a few squadrons of Bombers and Movers to destroy the Frigates, your Battlecruisers (BC's) and Destroyers (D's) to attack the Destroyers (D's), and Fighters to engage the enemy Fighters. They should fall quite easily, being easy prey to the might of your Battlecruisers (BC's), Destroyers (D's), and Ion Cannons with Pulsar support.
  2. 2
Set all ships to evasive tactics and ensure no ship wanders off. Send out your Pulsars, Corvettes (vettes), and Bombers to the strange-looking ship in the middle of the map. Direct them to destroy any ships on your side of it.
  3. 3
There are two easy methods for completing this mission.

METHOD 1

  1. Dump a huge mass of mines in front of your Heavy Cruisers. Have your Pulsars and Bombers attack Makaan's huge fleet with the intention of luring them back to the wall of mines. When the entire fleet of 4-6 Battlecruisers (BC's), 3-5 Destroyers (D's), a slew of Frigates, and Fighters begins to chase you, retreat quickly to your main fleet and position the enemy fleet behind your Frigates. The entire enemy fleet stationed to protect your target, Makaan, will eventually charge you at full throttle and attempt to engage you. They will be destroyed by the huge amount of mines you deployed. As soon as they come into range for missiles to start flying, send in the Heavy Cruisers very slowly. Remember to keep the Carrier (coll) nearby so that when a ship is even remotely damaged, you can quickly repair it to full health and have it back in the battle within minutes with full health. When you have destroyed about half of the Battlecruisers (BC's), send in the swarm of Ion Platforms (ion plats) directly into the midst of the enemy fleet.
  2. They should fall like flies now. As soon as you have destroyed that entire fleet, you have a significant choice. You have two options from this point: You can proceed to the left of your position and destroy approximately 1-2 Battlecruisers (BC's), 2-3 Destroyers (D's), and about 20 Frigates and millions of Bombers. Alternatively, you can go for the flag and head to the enemy flagship and destroy it as soon as possible. One option yields between 50,000 and 75,000 Resource Units (RU) with very minimal losses. The other option offers more RU but results in slightly more losses.

METHOD 2

  1. This method is much slower, but you can pretty much destroy Makaan's huge fleet with 5 Minelayers and about 4 Sensor Distortion Probes (SDP). First, send one Sensor Distortion Probe (SDP) to about the same level as Sajuuk. Then, send another to about 2,500 kilometers of the closest enemy fleet. Now, bring your 5 Minelayers to the same position as the Sensor Distortion Probe (SDP) and start deploying a very short line of mines. Note: Deploy a line, as there is no point in making a huge wall when as soon as a mine is deployed, it goes after an enemy ship. Have each of the Minelayers deploy about 3 mines each, all parallel to the enemy ships. If placed correctly, the mines will track the enemy and detonate on their hulls. The best aspect is that they just sit there and take it. Move the mine walls closer to reach the farthest ships and ensure you are under the Sensor Distortion Probe's (SDP) influence.
Tips
  • Be aware that if you go to the left side of the map, the enemy will utterly swarm you with Bombers and Frigates. They have more Frigates and Bombers there than you have ever seen in one place. The advantage is that they only have a couple of Battlecruisers (BC's) and a few Destroyers (D's), so a fully equipped fleet should engage them on a more than equal footing. By using the tactic of draw and overwhelm, this should not be a significant problem.
  • To draw and overwhelm, entice the Fighters to come out, and then when they get too far out, completely overwhelm them with fire from the Flak Frigates and Fighters/Corvettes. Then, do the same with the Frigates, using Capital Ships as the killers. Finally, begin to use Pulsars and Bombers on the Battlecruisers' (BC's) heavy missile launchers and then the Destroyers (D's), while your Heavy Cruisers focus on the Battlecruisers (BC's) themselves.
