Combat & Interrogation

• The Straight Dope: Use an intuition point to reveal a correct answer in an interrogation.
  • Strategy: During any interrogation, if you're unsure of the correct response (Truth, Doubt, or Lie), press the designated button to spend an intuition point. This will either highlight the correct option or remove incorrect ones. This is best done when you have multiple intuition points saved up and are genuinely stumped.
  • Availability: Intuition points are earned by completing objectives, finding clues, and progressing in cases. You can accumulate up to 5 at a time.
• Bulletproof: Finish a case without dying.
  • Strategy: This is easier on earlier cases with less combat. Focus on taking cover, using your partner for support, and aiming for headshots to quickly neutralize threats. "The Golden Butterfly" on the Homicide Desk is a good candidate for this, as it has minimal combat. Avoid unnecessary risks and use the auto-aim feature if you're struggling.
  • Recommended Cases:
    • "Upon Reflection" (Patrol): Very little combat, mostly driving and a brief foot chase.
    • "The Golden Butterfly" (Homicide): Limited combat, mostly investigation.
• The Shadow: Tail a suspect without being spotted.
  • Strategy: During tailing sequences, maintain a safe distance. Use cover like parked cars, bushes, or crowds to break line of sight. If the suspect turns around, immediately duck behind cover or pretend to be preoccupied (e.g., by interacting with a nearby object if available).
  • Key Tailing Opportunities:
    • "The Studio Secretary Murder" (Traffic): You tail the suspect to a bar. Use the crowds and parked cars.
    • "The Golden Butterfly" (Homicide): You tail a suspect from the diner. This is a good, relatively straightforward opportunity.
    • "The Set Up" (Vice): You tail a boxer. This can be tricky due to tighter spaces.
  • Tips: Stay behind the suspect, but not directly behind them. Use side streets or parallel paths if available. If they stop, find immediate cover.
• Team Player: Kill 5 enemies with help from your partner.
  • Strategy: During shootouts, your partner will often engage enemies. Weaken an enemy with a few shots (e.g., body shots), then let your partner land the killing blow. This is easily achieved during any major gunfight, such as those in "The Set Up" or "A Walk in Elysian Fields." Your partner's aim is generally good, so soften up targets and let them finish the job.
  • Good Cases for this:
    • "The Set Up" (Vice): Multiple shootouts, plenty of opportunities.
    • "A Walk in Elysian Fields" (Arson): Large-scale shootouts with many enemies.
    • "A Different Kind of War" (Arson): The final case has numerous combat encounters.
• The Homing Pigeon: Use a taxi to travel to a destination.
  • Strategy: Simply hail a taxi (stand on the sidewalk and press the designated button when one passes) and choose a destination from the map. This is a quick and easy achievement, often one of the first you'll unlock. You can hail a taxi at any point when you are on foot in the open world.

Miscellaneous Achievements/Trophies

These achievements cover a range of unique actions and situations within the game, often requiring specific actions or conditions to be met.

• The Up and Up: Correctly accuse a suspect of lying using evidence.
  • Strategy: During an interrogation, when you select "Lie" as your response, you must then present a piece of evidence that directly contradicts the suspect's statement. This is a core mechanic of the game and will happen naturally as you progress and master interrogations.
  • Example: If a suspect claims they weren't at a certain location, and you have a receipt or witness statement placing them there, present that evidence.
• The Third Degree: Successfully interrogate a suspect without using any intuition points.
  • Strategy: This requires careful attention to the suspect's facial expressions, body language, and the evidence you've collected. Practice makes perfect. Aim for a shorter interrogation with fewer questions if possible.
  • Recommended Cases: Early cases on the Patrol or Traffic desk often have simpler interrogations. "Upon Reflection" or "The Fallen Idol" are good candidates.
• The City of the Angels: Reach 100% completion.
  • Strategy: This is the ultimate achievement, requiring you to complete every other achievement in the game. This includes:
    • Completing all main cases with a 5-star rating.
    • Completing all 40 street crimes.
    • Finding all 20 badges.
    • Finding all 13 newspapers.
    • Discovering all 30 landmarks.
    • Driving all 95 vehicles.
    • Unlocking all other miscellaneous achievements.
  • Tips: Use the game's statistics menu to track your progress in each category. Prioritize collectibles and street crimes as you play through the main story to minimize post-game grinding. Replay cases as needed to achieve 5-star ratings.
• Wooden Overcoat: Find and inspect all clues in a single case.
  • Strategy: This achievement will likely unlock naturally during your first few cases. Simply be thorough at every crime scene and location. Look for sparkling objects, interact with everything, and use your partner's hints if available.
  • Availability: Almost any case can yield this, but simpler cases like "Upon Reflection" or "The Red Lipstick Murder" are good examples.
• Auto Fanatic: Drive 5 different vehicles.
  • Strategy: This is an extremely easy achievement. Simply steal and drive any five different cars you encounter in the game. It will likely unlock within your first hour of gameplay.
• Fallen Idol: Complete the case "The Fallen Idol."
  • Strategy: This is a story-related achievement, but it's listed separately as it's a specific case within the Traffic Desk. It will unlock upon successful completion of the case.
• The Silk Stocking Murder: Complete the case "The Silk Stocking Murder."
  • Strategy: Another story-related achievement for a specific Homicide Desk case. Unlocks upon completion.
• The Black Caesar: Complete the case "The Black Caesar."
  • Strategy: Story-related achievement for a specific Homicide Desk case. Unlocks upon completion.
