Learn where to find Mousetraps and how to capture the elusive Tsuchinoko in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to unlock special rewards like Infinity Face Paint.

To capture a Tsuchinoko in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, you'll first need to acquire Mousetraps. There are five Mousetraps available in the game, with one being missable if not obtained during the Virtuous Mission.

Mousetrap Locations

Mousetrap 1 (Missable): During the Virtuous Mission, after the cutscene in Rassvet where Ocelot and guards are unconscious, pick up Ocelot and immediately drop him to obtain the Mousetrap. If you keep it in your inventory upon mission completion, it will be lost. To keep it, plant it in tall grass in western Rassvet before finishing the mission, and retrieve it later in Operation Snake Eater.

Mousetraps 2 & 3: Found in Bolshaya Past Base. One is under a bed in the central building, and the other is in the adjacent storage building.

Mousetrap 4: In Ponizovje Warehouse, on the 2nd floor, within a room containing food supplies.

Mousetrap 5: In Graniny Gorki Lab, on the B1 floor, inside a cell (same location as a Kerotan).

How to Capture a Tsuchinoko

Tsuchinokos are invisible and can only be captured using a Mousetrap. Two primary locations are recommended:

  1. Bolshaya Past South: After Chyornyj Prud, enter the first tall grass area before the electric fence. Plant a Mousetrap, then exit and re-enter Chyornyj Prud until you hear the capture sound. If you don't have Ocelot's Mousetrap, collect the two from Bolshaya Past Base, then plant them in the tall grass by the northwestern exit of Bolshaya Past South. Repeatedly switch areas to check your traps.
  2. Graniny Gorki South: After defeating The Fear, place Mousetraps near the exit to Ponizovje Warehouse. Exit and re-enter the area until animals are caught. If no Tsuchinoko is caught, release other animals and retrieve your traps. This may require several attempts.

Simply capturing a Tsuchinoko with a trap unlocks the Believe It or Not trophy/achievement.

Infinity Face Paint

If your items are confiscated during the story, you can retrieve the Tsuchinoko later. After meeting Eva behind the waterfall in Tikhogornyj and regaining your weapons, exit the waterfall area. Near a large tree close to the waterfall, you should find the Tsuchinoko on the ground if you captured it previously. Use a tranquilizer to capture this visible Tsuchinoko. Completing the main story with this Tsuchinoko intact will unlock the Infinity Face Paint.
