Welcome back to Possum Springs! This guide helps you explore your hometown, meet old friends like Gregg and Bea, and find all the missable Notebook Sketches in Part I.
Alright, so you're back in Possum Springs! This is where the real story kicks off. After you leave your house, you'll have some freedom to wander around town. Keep in mind, a lot of places are still blocked off for now – we'll unlock more areas in Part II. For this chapter, you can check out the area right around your house, some neighboring places just a screen over, and a couple of screens filled with storefronts. There's even an underground area accessible through a tunnel that connects to the storefront sections. You can totally just make a beeline for your destination, but trust me, there's a ton to see and plenty of folks to chat with. These interactions might not always seem crucial, but they really help build up Mae, Possum Springs, and her friends. Plus, you'll want to inspect certain things to snag some Notebook Sketches, so keep an eye out for those – I'll point out the missable ones!
This is also the part where you'll meet most of the main characters. Seriously, take your time and get to know everyone. Gregg, Angus, Bea, your mom and dad – they're all super important to the story and have some funny or interesting things to say if you bother to talk to them. What's the point of coming home if you're not gonna catch up with your old pals and family, right?
Area Overview
- Location: Outside Your House
- Inspect: Construction. Apparently, half the town is shut down because of it. Saves on the animation budget, I guess.
- Talk: Mr. Twigmeyer. Your neighbor seems like a bit of a jerk.
- Location: Outside Bea's House
- Inspect: Statue. You'll find out this is where your friend Bea lives. Inspect the statue three times to get a Notebook Sketch.
- Talk: Selmers. She's the grumpy bear right by the start of the screen. Chat with her to find out why she's so sour.
- Talk: Crow. This guy isn't much of a talker.
- Talk: Mr. Chazokov. Your old teacher! He'll invite you over to his roof to stargaze later this week.
- Talk: Harleys. These three kids you saw earlier are playing cops and… something.
- Talk: Danny. This cat on the left side of the screen is recently unemployed and pretty bummed about it.
- Location: Storefronts, Screen 1
- Enter: Tunnel. This leads to the underground area, on the right side.
- Grab: Message Board. You can check out a missing poster for Casey Hartley, a notice for Harfest, and a ball of yarn. Go ahead and play with the yarn – you know you want to.
- Inspect: Barricade. Head up the stairs on the right to find a barricade blocking the path to the church. Inspecting it gets you a new Notebook Sketch.
- Talk: Lori M. This mouse next to the statue mentions an incident that earned you the nickname "killer." Sounds juicy!
- Inspect: War Monument. They have these all over town. After you look at it, Mae will add a "Big Skeleton" Notebook Sketch to your book.
- Location: Underground
- Inspect: Tunnel. Go all the way to the right, and Mae will explain how this place flooded.
- Talk: Pierogi Stand. The guy won't sell to you because you apparently stole from him years ago. Oops.
- Grab: Pretzels. The grab icon shows up, but Mae won't actually steal one. What a saint.
- Talk: Teens. They're unimpressed that you can't buy booze and don't have a car. Typical teenagers.
- Location: Storefronts, Screen 2
- Inspect: Video Outpost "Too" Sign. Mae has some thoughts on the grammar here. Can't help you there, sorry!
- Enter: Tunnel. This leads to the underground area, on the left side.
- Talk: Workers. They're hanging out by Miller's and are just happy work is over.
- Enter: Snack Falcon. This is your destination. Head inside when you're done exploring.
- Inspect: Abandoned Food Donkey. Go to the far left of the screen, and Mae will comment on this abandoned Food Donkey. You can't actually go there, though.
Feel free to explore the street between your house and the Snack Falcon. You might see a squirrel jump on your mailbox and then climb the tree above it. If you follow it, you can actually climb onto some telephone wires. Follow those wires to the left, and you'll enter a new screen. Once you do, Mae will draw the houses there for your notebook. Keep going along the wires until you reach a red building with a statue in the middle. Jump on the window to the right of the statue, and inspect it three times – you'll get another notebook entry! You can head back down to the street either by retracing your steps or by falling off where the wires end on the left. There are lots of people to talk to on your way to the Snack Falcon, but none of them are strictly required.
Keep going past this screen, and you'll hit the first part of the street with all the storefronts. You can take the tunnel down to check out the underground area, but first, head up the stairs. There's a barricade here blocking the path to the church; inspecting it will get you another notebook entry. Continue left until you see a statue – it's some kind of war memorial. Inspect it a couple of times, and Mae will sketch something for your notebook again. Go one more screen to the left, and the Snack Falcon will be there among the other shops. Head inside once you've explored everything you want to. Walk towards the counter, and Gregg will immediately freak out when he sees you. He's happy to see you, though!
