Learn how to get started in Outer Wilds. This guide covers exploring your home planet, interacting with locals, and finding your ship to begin your space exploration.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Explore your home planet and speak with the locals. Gneiss will teach you about the Signalscope. Galena and Tephra will have you play Hide-and-Seek to practice using it. Arkose will explain ghost matter and how to detect it with the Scout Launcher. Mica offers a practice flight with a miniature spaceship. Gossan will introduce you to zero-gravity maneuvering in the "Zero-G" cave.
  2. 2
Visit the Observatory. Talk to the locals there for more details about the world. Explore the museum on the ground floor, reading descriptions and examining exhibits. Use your translator on the Nomai language found on stone slabs. Listen to the "museum shard" with your Signalscope. Observe the "gravity crystal" and other mechanics. Use the solar system map on the top floor.
  3. 3
Obtain the Launch Codes from Hornfels. This will activate a cutscene showing memories from the past 20 minutes.
  4. 4
Return to your ship. Use the lift near where Slate was roasting marshmallows, accessed with the launch codes. Inside your ship, you'll find a space suit with turbo boosters, an oxygen tank (refillable on the ship or at living trees), and fuel for the boosters (refillable on the ship or at traveler camps). You can recover health by using the medical kit or roasting marshmallows.
  5. 5
Locate other explorers. Use the Signalscope to find them by their instruments or their camps by smoke. Traveler camps offer oxygen refills, spare fuel tanks, and marshmallows.
