A happy and well-trained staff is the backbone of any successful theme park in Planet Coaster. Neglecting your employees can lead to dirty paths, broken rides, and ultimately, unhappy guests and plummeting profits. This section will guide you through optimizing your staff's performance and keeping their morale high.

Understanding Staff Roles and Needs

Each staff member has a specific role and unique needs. Understanding these will help you manage them effectively.

• Mechanics: Crucial for keeping your rides operational and safe. They repair broken attractions and perform scheduled maintenance.
• Janitors: Responsible for park cleanliness. They empty bins, sweep paths, and clean up guest vomit.
• Security Guards: Maintain order and deter vandalism. They patrol the park and intervene in guest disputes.
• Entertainers: Boost guest happiness and distract them from long queues. They perform at designated spots or roam the park.
• Vendors: Operate food, drink, and souvenir stalls. Their efficiency directly impacts guest satisfaction and your income.

Training Your Staff

Training is an investment that pays dividends in efficiency and guest satisfaction. Untrained staff are slower, less effective, and more prone to becoming unhappy.

1. Accessing the Training Menu:

   To initiate training, select a staff member by clicking on them in the park or by navigating to the Staff Management tab (found in the bottom-left UI panel, represented by a clipboard icon). Once a staff member is selected, their individual information panel will appear on the right side of the screen. Look for the "Train" button.

2. Training Levels:

   Each staff member can be trained up to five levels. Each level increases their efficiency, speed, and overall effectiveness in their role. For example, a Level 5 Mechanic will repair rides significantly faster than a Level 1 Mechanic.

   • Level 1: Basic Training - Improves fundamental skills.
   • Level 2: Intermediate Training - Further enhances efficiency.
   • Level 3: Advanced Training - Significant performance boost.
   • Level 4: Expert Training - Near-peak performance.
   • Level 5: Master Training - Maximum efficiency and skill.
3. Cost and Time:

   Training costs money and takes time. The cost increases with each level. Plan your training budget carefully, especially in the early stages of your park. You can queue up multiple training levels, and the staff member will automatically progress through them.

4. Prioritizing Training:

   Prioritize training for staff in high-traffic areas or critical roles. For instance, Mechanics working on your most popular rides should be highly trained. Similarly, Janitors in busy plazas will benefit greatly from advanced training.

Maintaining Staff Morale

High morale leads to better performance and reduced staff turnover. Low morale can result in staff quitting, demanding higher wages, or simply performing poorly.

1. Staff Buildings and Facilities:

Staff need places to rest, eat, and relax away from the guests. These buildings are essential for morale.

• Staff Room: The most basic and crucial staff building. Place these strategically around your park so staff don't have to travel far for breaks. A well-placed Staff Room significantly reduces travel time for breaks, allowing staff to return to their duties faster.
  • Upgrades: Staff Rooms can be upgraded to include amenities like comfortable seating, vending machines, and even small entertainment options, which further boost morale during breaks. Access upgrades via the building's information panel.
• Staff Canteen: Provides food and drink for staff, preventing them from needing to buy expensive guest food. This is a significant morale booster and cost-saver.
• Staff Toilets: Essential for staff comfort and hygiene. Place these near Staff Rooms for convenience.

2. Fair Wages:

Staff will demand higher wages as they gain experience and training. Regularly check the Staff Management tab for staff members with low morale due to "Low Pay." Adjusting their salary upwards will quickly improve their mood. Be mindful of your budget, but don't be stingy with your best employees.

3. Workload Management:

Overworked staff become unhappy quickly. Ensure you have enough staff to cover all areas of your park. The Work Roster feature (accessible from the Staff Management tab) allows you to assign staff to specific zones, preventing them from wandering too far and becoming overwhelmed.

• Creating Work Rosters: Click on the "Work Rosters" tab within the Staff Management menu. Select "Create New Roster" and then define the boundaries of the zone using the on-screen tools. Assign relevant staff members (e.g., Janitors, Mechanics) to this zone.
• Benefits: Rosters ensure staff are focused on specific areas, reducing travel time and improving efficiency. It also prevents staff from feeling overwhelmed by the entire park's demands.

4. Promotions:

Occasionally, staff members will become eligible for a promotion, indicated by a notification. Promoting a staff member increases their morale and often unlocks new abilities or increases their base efficiency. While promotions usually come with a pay raise, the benefits often outweigh the cost.

5. Avoiding Overcrowding:

While not directly staff-related, an overcrowded park can indirectly impact staff morale. Staff may struggle to navigate through dense crowds, leading to frustration and slower task completion. Ensure your park layout allows for smooth guest and staff movement.
