Learn how to play guitar in Rock Band 4, including controls, Overdrive, and scoring for guitar solos.
Walkthrough
- 1Hold down the corresponding colored fret button for each note.
- 2Strum the strum bar (the horizontal bar) as the note reaches the target strip at the bottom of the fret board.
- 3For chords (multiple notes at the same time), hold down all corresponding fret buttons and strum.
- 4For fast or long sections, use alternative strumming by strumming up and down at the required speed.
- 5To perform Hammer-ons and Pull-offs, strum the first normal-sized note, then simply press the corresponding fret buttons for the subsequent shorter, squat notes.
- 6Hit glowing white notes perfectly to build Overdrive, shown as a gold bar below your targets.
- 7When the Overdrive bar is half full and flashing, tilt your guitar up quickly to activate Overdrive, which doubles your score and makes the crowd easier to please.
- 8Continue hitting Overdrive notes to maintain and increase your Overdrive.
- 9Guitar solos are indicated by a blue background.
- 10Solo sections use your guitar's effect and award bonus points based on performance.
- 11A Messy Solo (below 60%) gets no extra points.
- 12An Okay Solo (60%-69%) gets a few extra points.
- 13A Good Solo (70%-79%) gets more points.
- 14A Great Solo (80-89%) gets a good deal of points.
- 15An Awesome Solo (90%-99%) gets even more points.
- 16A Perfect Solo (100%) gets the maximum solo points.
Tips
- Reverse strumming is effective for very fast or long, repetitive sections.
- Hammer-ons are performed down the neck (toward the guitar body), and Pull-offs are performed up the neck (toward the guitar head).
- Activating Overdrive can add a cool effect to your notes if you are using the Stratocaster guitar.
- The exact point values for solos are based on percentage of score or set amounts per solo.
