Master the Plague Knight boss fight in Shovel Knight! Learn his attack patterns, weaknesses, and the best strategies to overcome this mobile menace.

Alright, we've made it to Part 17! This section is all about taking on Plague Knight. He's a super mobile boss, always jumping and throwing stuff, so you'll need to stay on your toes. The Phase Locket is your best friend here for dodging unavoidable damage, and keep an Ichor of Renewal handy for the end.

The arena itself has breakable rocks, but don't sweat it too much – there's solid ground underneath. Let's break down his moves:

Plague Knight's Attacks

  • Vial Shots: This is his main move. It explodes on impact, and can also send out green waves along the ground and walls. Super annoying!
  • Gattling Vial: Sometimes he'll stand still to rapidly throw vials, trying to cover the area in front of him. This is a prime opportunity to use your Phase Locket and get some hits in.
  • Test Tubes: Once he's taken some damage, he'll summon chemical tubes at random spots. They're usually harmless, but if Plague Knight hits them with his vials, they explode bigger. Just added danger!
  • Chemist Fire: When he's below half health, he'll start creating patches of burning chemist fire in random spots. Avoid these – they're a sign you're getting close to victory!

After this fight, you should snag the 'Halfway' Feat! Once you're back at the campfire, remember to dig up anything you left behind. Next up, we're heading to the Lost City to take on the Mole Knight!

Lost City Walkthrough (Part 17 Continued)

We're now in the Lost City, and the stage is called 'An Underlying Problem.' Keep an eye out for Flame Slimes – don't use a downward strike on them, it'll hurt you! On the first screen, you have a choice: go DOWN or RIGHT. Head right first and jump to the chest you see.

After that, drop down, grab the items to your right, and then hit the sparkle spot. You'll fish up a Troupple Fish – use it if you can!

Now, backtrack left and dig up the upper layer of dirt for some gems, then deal with the flame slimes. Make sure you leave a path back up to the left. Return to the previous screen, destroy the dirt blocking your way, and head downwards.

You'll encounter another fire slime. Watch out for the lava drips; they can turn regular slimes into fire slimes. There's a new enemy here with a horse-like face that races back and forth. It's immune to downward strikes, but you can use that move to get behind it and defeat it. Continue right, being cautious of lava drips and pits before heading down again.

Destroy the walls to your left for gems and a platter. Below, you'll find some blue wisps. They take a lot of hits, so having the Phase Locket ready is a good idea. Downward strikes work well here. Defeat the two wisps and the horse-faced enemy, making sure to grab the floor and wall deposits before continuing downward.

Get ready for a ride on a huge beetle! It's moving over lava, so be super careful not to fall in – the Phase Locket won't save you from lava! The green section of the beetle will launch you upwards, while the front part doesn't, giving you different jumping options. Avoid the lava at the start and jump up for some gems.

Jump onto the ledge ahead. If you don't need magic, you can skip the enemy. You'll see pillars of dirt coming up; break them quickly for gems and use them as cover when the lava drips start. You can bounce up and destroy the dirt leading to a gem deposit. If you can't quite make it...
