Full Plate Mail

Full Plate Mail is considered some of the best armor available in Sword of the Sea. While some superior armor can be found much later in the game, purchasing or acquiring Full Plate Mail sooner rather than later is highly recommended. It is valuable for ensuring at least three characters in your party have heavy armor before reaching the Nashkel Mines, potentially saving you a few thousand gold compared to buying it later.

It is possible to manage with normal Plate Mail until you find superior armor in Durlag's Tower, but this will result in a two-point higher Armor Class for a significant portion of the game.

While you can obtain two suits of Ankheg Plate Mail, which have the same Armor Class as Full Plate Mail, Full Plate Mail allows you to wear magical protection items such as Rings and Cloaks of Protection. Ankheg Plate Mail does not allow this. You will need to decide if the extra Armor Class and the ability to wear magical protection is worth the investment.
