Learn about Eldoth in Sword of the Sea, including his HP and THAC0, and why Garrick is a better Bard choice.
Eldoth is not a recommended character in Sword of the Sea. While you can reach him relatively quickly, the effort is not considered worth it. He gains a bonus to his Hit Points and has good Strength, but his Hit Point gain of seven per level is insufficient, and a Bard does not have a great THAC0 (To Hit Armor Class 0) progression. Garrick is a better choice for an archer/support character, which is the ideal role for a Bard, and he can be recruited much earlier. If you must have a Bard, choose Garrick.
Eldoth starts with fewer Hit Points than expected, having 15 out of a possible 21 at third level. By level five, he only has 24 out of a possible 35. Neither of these amounts are acceptable for a character whose maximum Hit Points are 65 before starting out with a penalty of six Hit Points.
Perhaps the only point of interest regarding Eldoth is that you need him to recruit Skie, who is also considered a weak character.
- Consider Garrick as an earlier and more effective Bard option.
- Eldoth's low Hit Points and THAC0 progression make him a less viable combatant.
- Recruiting Eldoth is necessary if you wish to recruit Skie.
