Guide to 'The Chase' naval mission in Assassin's Creed III. Learn how to escort merchant ships, destroy gunboats, clear mines, and take down fort mortars.
Alright, so you've landed yourself in 'The Chase' mission. Don't worry, it's pretty straightforward once you know what you're doing. We'll be starting off in the Aquila, your trusty ship. Your first job is to check the mini-map and carefully steer through the rocky area until you hit the search zone.
Once you get there, a little cutscene will play showing a merchant ship getting hammered by British gunboats. Your job now is to protect that ship and take out any gunboats that show up. You can use either a broadside or the swivel guns – the swivels are super easy; just wait until the targeting reticule turns red and fire. Quick tip: there's an optional objective to keep the merchant ship's damage below 50%, so you'll want to be speedy with your shots!
Keep escorting the merchant ship through the rocks, blasting any British gunships that pop up. They tend to show up pretty often. Also, keep an eye out for any rogue winds; they can easily push you into the rocks if you're not careful. Just keep this up until another scene kicks in.
Now you'll get a good look at what the mines look like! Your next task is to use the swivel gun to blast the mines directly in front of you to clear a path. After that, take out the gunboat to your right. Then, shoot the mines ahead and to the left – this should take out the mines and the boat lurking behind them. Heads up, there's another optional objective here: destroy a boat using one of the mines. Keep moving forward, avoiding the rocks, and blasting any mines and gunboats you encounter until you reach a more open area.
Make your way over to the next search area. Once your objective appears, you'll need to take out the mortar towers on the fort to the north along the coast. Clear out any other enemy ships in the vicinity before you zero in on the fort.
When it's time to tackle the fort, you'll notice that when the towers fire their mortars, an area of effect will show up in the water. There's an optional objective to avoid taking more than 50% damage from these mortars, so try your best to steer clear of the white water. To bring the fort down, you'll need to line up a broadside and hit those towers with it. After a few well-placed broadsides, the towers should be destroyed, and that'll wrap up the mission.
