Veteran difficulty tips for Call of Duty: WWII missions D-Day, Operation Cobra, and Stronghold. Learn how to conserve First Aid Kits and use cover effectively.
D-Day
Walkthrough
- 1The beginning segment is the toughest part of the level. You can only survive two bursts of MG fire before needing a First Aid Kit (available from Zussman in the trench after blowing the seawall). Follow Pierson, run, and hold the duck button to go prone as you approach his cover.
- 2After breaching the seawall, be cautious of two enemies and MG fire. Toss a grenade into the trench opening to clear out waiting enemies.
- 3Clearing bunkers generally involves moving slowly and using cover.
- 4Do not use the flamethrower in bunker three, as enemies will kill you before you can clear the room.
- 5Bunker four is the most difficult bunker. Use the wall with the window for cover, peeking around either side to quickly eliminate visible Nazis. Conserve First Aid Kits by getting hit as little as possible.
- 6Dragging Zussman is difficult due to your weak gun, lack of cover, and slow reloads. Success involves some luck, but conserving First Aid Kits makes it easier. Utilize frequent checkpoints (save points) and note where soldiers appear to get the advantage.
- 7The farm segment can be troublesome. To take the farm, go right and hide in the shrubbery, moving far enough to avoid the farm's MG fire. Pick off Nazi soldiers in the field with a long-range weapon.
- 8When defending the farm, move to the second story but do not use the mounted MG, as it will kill you quickly. Stay back from the wall to avoid close-range enemies while still being able to hit charging Nazis without taking much damage. Two health packs are available upstairs. You must actively engage enemies; do not camp. Move far enough back to provide cover while still being able to hit and eliminate Nazis quickly.
Operation Cobra
Walkthrough
- 1The beginning of this level is significantly harder than later parts. The assault on the barn is the most difficult segment. MG fire will come from the barn, and attempting to eliminate them from afar is ineffective due to the number of enemies. Going left offers little cover and allows the MG to hit you from most positions. The right path is best: toss grenades to clear nearby Nazis, then slowly advance, hugging the left wall to minimize MG fire. Once the bottom area is clear, run towards the top. The haystack provides solid cover; keep your head down and eliminate remaining soldiers outside. Be aware that upper-level barn gunshots can sometimes hit you unexpectedly. Minimize MG damage and slowly ascend the hill. Run to the side when possible to reach a checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death).
- 2To enter the barn, use the window on the right side for a good vantage point. Soldiers will run down the stairs; toss a grenade or two. Only peek around the side, as upper-level Nazis can still hit you. After thinning the ranks, loop around to the other entrance near Turner to clear the ground floor without snipers from the top. Once the bottom is clear, your squad will charge in. Clearing the top level is straightforward; the bottom floor is the main challenge.
- 3Stay on the upper level of the barn when clearing the hayfield; this segment is easy if you remain upstairs.
- 4The AA gun segment is manageable, but try to avoid taking significant damage early on. An inconvenient checkpoint exists here; if you have low health, you must play the second segment almost perfectly. Memorize plane spawn locations to make this part easier.
- 5The rest of the level is simpler. Hide behind moving tanks and only eliminate visible Nazis on the sides. During the second tank advance, your squad will handle most enemies, so avoid rushing out at a bad time.
Stronghold
Walkthrough
- 1The start of this mission appears more difficult than it is due to numerous supporting troops who help eliminate enemy soldiers even on Veteran. Immediately throw a mortar strike from Aiello towards the front.
Tips
- Conserve First Aid Kits whenever possible, especially before challenging sections like dragging Zussman.
- Utilize cover (like walls, windowsills, and haystacks) extensively to avoid enemy fire.
- When possible, use long-range weapons to pick off enemies from a safe distance.
- Pay attention to frequent checkpoints (save points) and use them to your advantage, especially if you take damage.
- Listen for enemy spawns and movements to anticipate their attacks.
- Avoid using mounted MGs or flamethrowers in confined spaces or when exposed, as they can lead to quick deaths.
- When defending areas, balance staying safe with actively engaging and eliminating enemies.
