Walkthrough

    Head down the hallway, defeating Zombies and Bats. Avoid the third candle which contains a Dagger.

    Climb the stairs to the right, dealing with two Axe Guards. Alucard can fly to the upper platform.

    In the next room, defeat Spiders and Headless Hunters while avoiding spider projectiles. Proceed through the door.

    In the following room, defeat Slimes and Skeletons throwing bones from above. Grab the Leg of Werewolf in the wall to the far right after defeating the Whip Skeleton and Slime.

    Use the Leg of Werewolf if needed and ascend the stairs, defeating enemies and outrunning a Red Skeleton.

    Continue upwards, defeating Slimes and Axe Guards. A candle higher up contains Sacred Water, and the far left candle holds a big Heart.

    Ascend the stairs to the final screen. Whip the blocks to the left for a big Heart.

    Head upstairs to find sub-weapons, including the Banshee Boomerang to the left of the upper blocks. This is the recommended weapon.

Boss: Grim Reaper

The Grim Reaper is a two-phase boss fight.

Phase 1 Strategy:

  • Sypha's Lightning Orb is highly effective and can hit scythes.
  • Alucard's spread attack has good range.
  • The Banshee Boomerang, especially with Double Trouble or Triple Threat icons, can damage the boss and destroy scythes.
  • Sacred Water can stun-lock the Grim Reaper if used effectively on the ground.
  • To evade scythes, use the blocks on either side of the screen. Moving horizontally between blocks can disrupt scythe tracking.
  • Continue attacking the Grim Reaper as he floats to advance to Phase 2.

Phase 2 Strategy:

  • Start on the middle block on the right and attack the Grim Reaper twice, then drop off to the right.
  • The Grim Reaper becomes a large, rotating skull that moves slowly left, wrapping around the screen.
  • He will occasionally stop and shoot a single scythe.
  • Attack his mouth to defeat him, following him slowly and attacking. Sypha is particularly effective.
  • When the skull is on your right, run underneath it to stay safe.
Tips
  • The music in this stage is reminiscent of the original _Castlevania_.
  • Restore Points are helpful for dealing with the Spiders.
  • The Axe sub-weapon found by the small stairs in BLK 8-02 is useful against Skeletons but don't trade it for Icon Sub-Weapons.
  • The blocks in the final screen will fall, so do not stop to collect items there.
  • The Grim Reaper is a recurring boss, appearing near the end of the game.
