The Trade Federation

Hey there, miner! Let's talk about the Trade Federation. You might not run into them directly in the mines, but understanding who they are gives you a better feel for the galaxy you're fighting in. They're a pretty big deal, and knowing their perks can even give you a slight edge.

Civilization Bonus: Prefab Shelters are not necessary. This means you can get straight to building without needing those extra structures, saving you time and resources.

Team Bonus: Heavy Weapons Factory units gain +15% speed. If you're playing with friends and focusing on heavy firepower, this bonus makes your units much more mobile and deadly.

Fortress Bonus: Fortresses gain +3 Anti-Air range. This is a nice defensive buff, giving your fortresses a longer reach to swat down any aerial threats.

Historically, the Trade Federation started out as a group representing merchants and traders about 350 years before the Battle of Yavin. But, as often happens, power corrupted them. They became a massive force, controlling major trade routes and essentially holding the galaxy's economy hostage. They were known for being greedy and pretty ruthless.

Things got complicated when Senator Palpatine pushed for a law (Resolution BR-0371) that put tariffs on hyperspace trade routes. This hit the Trade Federation hard, cutting into their profits. Their response? To build a secret army with help from companies like Baktoid Armor Workshop and Haor Chall Engineering. They were getting ready for a fight.

Their big move was blockading and then invading Naboo, Queen Amidala's homeworld. They wanted to force her to sign over control of the planet. Luckily for Naboo, Jedi Knights got involved, and during the ensuing Battle of Naboo, a young Anakin Skywalker managed to destroy the Trade Federation's Droid Control Ship, disabling their army. Viceroy Nute Gunray, the guy in charge of the invasion, got away with it, though.

Even after that mess, the Trade Federation stayed powerful. They rebuilt their military and eventually aligned themselves with the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) during the Clone Wars. They were promised the assassination of Senator Amidala, which fueled their hatred for her and Naboo. They were present at the First Battle of Geonosis, fully revealing their allegiance to the CIS and going to war against the Republic.
