Gem socketing is a fundamental upgrade system in Dispatch, allowing players to enhance their gear with powerful bonuses by inserting precious gems into designated slots. Almost all armor, weapons, and accessories can be found or crafted with one or more gem sockets. By strategically choosing and socketing the right gems, You can significantly tailor their character's stats, resistances, and even unlock unique combat effects, making it a crucial aspect of character progression and build optimization.

Gems in Dispatch come in various types and rarities, each offering different benefits. Common gems might provide simple stat boosts like +5 Strength or +3 Dexterity. Rarer gems, such as Emeralds, Rubies, Sapphires, and Diamonds, offer more potent effects. For example, an Emerald might grant a significant boost to Constitution, while a Ruby could increase fire damage. The highest rarity gems, often referred to as 'Prismatic' or 'Perfect' gems, can offer a combination of stats or unique, powerful abilities.

The process of gem socketing is straightforward. Players need to find an NPC known as a Jeweler or a Gemcutter, usually found in major towns or cities. They will then select the item they wish to upgrade and the gem they want to socket. Some items may have specific types of sockets that can only accept certain gem types, while others have open sockets that can accommodate any gem. It's important to check the item's description for any socket restrictions.

Strategic gem selection is paramount. A melee fighter might prioritize socketing Strength and Critical Hit Damage gems into their weapon and armor. A spellcaster, on the other hand, would focus on Intelligence, Mana Regeneration, and Spell Damage gems. For defensive purposes, gems that boost resistances to specific elements or increase overall armor rating are invaluable. Consider the challenges you face in different regions; for example, socketing ice resistance gems is highly advisable before venturing into the Northern Pass.

Beyond basic stat boosts, some gems offer unique effects. A Garnet of Fiery Touch might add a chance to burn enemies on hit, while a Sapphire of Arcane Echo could grant a chance for spells to cast a second time with reduced effect. These special gems are often found in challenging areas or as rewards for difficult quests. You can also use a Gem Polisher item to remove gems from an item without destroying them, allowing for flexibility in adapting builds.
