Controls

Menus

X confirms selections and O cancels. Directional buttons allow mode selection. Square accesses Moogle mail and randomizes quick battle conditions. Start brings up tutorials. Triangle opens the character customization screen, where you can set abilities (bravery and HP damage), change equipment, and set summons. Each character has a limited number of ability slots, requiring strategic choices. Earning AP allows you to master abilities, reducing CP cost or unlocking new ones. EXP improves character stats, and PP can be used at the PP catalog.

Fighting

The analog stick controls character movement. Directional buttons adjust the camera. X performs a jump, O executes bravery attacks, and Square performs HP attacks. Bravery attacks determine the damage dealt by HP attacks. Abilities are context-sensitive: pressing O while neutral, approaching, or backing away from an enemy will trigger different bravery attacks. This applies to both ground and aerial attacks, as well as bravery and HP abilities. R blocks, and L changes the target. R + X dodges, and R + O calls your set summon.

EX Mode

EX Mode is Dissidia's equivalent to Limit Breaks. The EX bar fills with EX Force (glowing lights) and EX Cores found in the arena. When the bar is full, pressing R + Square activates EX Mode, granting temporary invincibility and unique, character-specific abilities that increase power. Landing an HP attack during EX Mode and pressing Square again triggers an EX Burst, a character-specific ultimate attack often involving button sequences or rapid presses.
