Unlock the Spear's full potential in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Learn essential combos, powerful Battle Arts like Dragon Flash, and optimal weapon attributes for devastating combat.
The Spear in Dynasty Warriors: Origins can feel weak initially, especially compared to the Sword. However, with the right Battle Arts and weapon attributes, it becomes a formidable weapon. Key Battle Arts like Rising Dragon Vortex (available early in Chapter 2) and the powerful Dragon Flash are crucial for unlocking its potential. The rank 8 weapon, Flying Luan, is easily obtainable in Chapter 3 on the Shu side during New Game Plus.
While the base rank 8 weapon is decent, the Spear truly shines with a weapon attribute that reduces charge time for Strong attacks by 33%. This significantly enhances combo potential and execution speed.
Combos
Important: Never use Strong attacks by themselves. Always incorporate them into combos.
- Basic Combo: If not performing a parry or counter, use Block + Strong to launch, then spam Strong attacks to finish. This is your fundamental Spear combo. You can extend this by adding Rising Dragon Vortex (RDV) and normal attacks in the air, followed by a Strong attack to land or Dragon Flash for increased Fortitude damage.
- Parry/Counter Combo: After a successful parry or counter, use Block + Strong to launch, followed by Strong x 1, RDV, a Strong attack to land, and then spam Strong attacks to finish. Optionally, you can add another RDV after the final hit for more Fortitude damage. If you anticipate being interrupted, you can perform RDV immediately, skipping the launch attack.
- Chase Combo: After a counter (or when an enemy has a long recovery time), use Evade + Forward + Strong (hold) to launch, then Evade + Forward + Strong for a chase. After landing, reorient yourself (pressing Block usually auto-faces the enemy) and perform Combo 1. This combo is effective after a parry but less consistent without the -33% charge time attribute. This combo deals significant Fortitude damage and generates good Bravery.
- Dragon Flash Extension: Chain into Dragon Flash after Combo 3 for approximately 9.5-10 Fortitude damage. You can end Combo 1's final Strong attack thrust spam slightly early to better connect with Dragon Flash against officers like Lu Bu or in duels.
Most Useful Battle Arts
- Rising Dragon Vortex: Essential from early to late game. Purchase this from the shop in Chapter 2 as soon as possible.
- Dragon Flash: An extremely powerful ultimate Battle Art that transforms the Spear's effectiveness. It's a ranged, line AoE with considerable width, allowing safe engagement from a distance. While performing it, time slows, but you are not invincible; evade cancel the animation after launching it for safety.
- Piercing Vengeance: A highly useful counter move that negates the need for precise parries, though relying on it may hinder skill improvement.
- Savage Thrust Barrage: Potentially useful before unlocking Dragon Flash.
- Wild Rush: A chase-down or combo starter, but less effective than its Sword counterpart, especially at a 2 Bravery cost. At 1 cost, it's more viable, but you'll need to choose between it and Piercing Vengeance.
