Master the sword in Dynasty Warriors: Origins with combo guides, Battle Art recommendations, and tips for beginners and end-game play.
Walkthrough
- 1Nx5 + S spam: Use strong attacks (S) to stagger enemies and interrupt their actions.
- 2Nx4 + S to launch: After hitting an enemy four times with normal attacks (N), use a strong attack to launch them into the air. Continue to spam strong attacks while they are airborne. This is the primary 1-on-1 combo for the sword.
- 3Combo 2 follow-ups: After landing from the air combo, you can use Mad Blade Rush (MBR) to chase down the enemy and destroy their last bit of fortitude. Alternatively, while in the air, you can end the strong attack string early and chain into Flying Dragon Slash (FDS). After landing from an FDS, you can chain another FDS.
- 4Nx1 + S to launch (advanced): Use one normal attack followed by a strong attack to launch the enemy. Mad Blade Rush is an optional follow-up.
- 5N4 + S into FDS: Perform four normal attacks followed by a strong attack, then chain into Flying Dragon Slash. You cannot typically spam strong attacks in the air after this combo as the enemy will likely be falling too quickly.
- 6N5 + S spam (duels): Use five normal attacks followed by strong attacks. This combo is best used in duels where only health damage is a concern, as the enemy will recover during the N5 sequence and will not suffer further fortitude damage.
- 7N1 + S to launch -> Divine Eagle Dance: After unlocking Divine Eagle Dance, use one normal attack followed by a strong attack to launch the enemy, then immediately use Divine Eagle Dance.
- 8N4 + S into FDS (post-Divine Eagle Dance): Perform four normal attacks, a strong attack, and chain into Flying Dragon Slash. You cannot perform the follow-up air strong attack spam.
- 9N2 or N4 + S spam (low fortitude/bravery): If an enemy has low bravery or fortitude, or if you have low bravery yourself, use two or four normal attacks followed by strong attack spam.
- 10Bread and butter vs officers: Combo 2 (Nx4 + S to launch) is your primary combo against officers once they are vulnerable. After the initial launch, continue with strong attacks to finish the combo.
- 11Chaining into Battle Arts (BA): To chain into a BA like Flying Dragon Slash, you must use it before the air combo with the strong attack string ends. This can be used against large armies and multiple officers if an opening is apparent.
- 12Mad Blade Rush utility: Mad Blade Rush is highly effective for chasing down enemies and depleting their final fortitude points, but it carries a risk in duels.
- 13Combo 4 with Divine Eagle Dance: Combo 4 (Nx1 + S to launch) is primarily used to set up Divine Eagle Dance after you unlock it in Chapter 4 by speaking with the NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you) in Yang province.
Tips
- The sword is ideal for beginners due to its ease of use and familiar mechanics from previous Dynasty Warriors games.
- While effective, the sword's damage output may decrease compared to top-tier weapons by the end game, requiring longer to defeat enemies.
- Warning: Mad Blade Rush can be risky to use in duels.
- Warning: Divine Eagle Dance has a long animation and you are not immune to damage while performing it. Use it carefully.
- Battle Arts (BA) Recommendations:
- Falcon Flurry: A good early ranged BA that combos with your air attacks after landing. Useful until you acquire Flying Dragon Slash.
- Flying Dragon Slash (FDS): A long-range, aerial BA that can hit multiple officers. It replaces Falcon Flurry.
- Fickle Fury: A crucial sword skill for duels and large armies. It acts as a counter that nullifies any non-red attacks.
- Mad Blade Rush (MBR): Useful for combo links and chasing down enemies. It's a strong contender against Fickle Fury, and you can switch BAs during missions. Fickle Fury is recommended for duels, while MBR is good for general use.
- Swallow Slash: A quick, low-cost BA that pushes enemies away. It can be useful later with the Disc of Huanglong to reduce its cost to 1 bravery.
- Shadow Dance: A situational BA for duels, but its bravery cost is very high.
- Divine Eagle Dance: A large area-of-effect (AoE) BA that slows time, breaks 3.5 shields, and costs only 6 bravery (5 with Disc of Huanglong). Unlock this by talking to the Elder NPC in Yang Province during Chapter 4.
- Sp. Ice Luan: An alternative to Divine Eagle Dance, costing more bravery but dealing more health and fortitude damage with a larger AoE.
- Shadowless Blade: A BA that performs a mini back evade and creates a small whirlwind. It can be used to dodge attacks while dealing damage, though it's difficult to master.
