Complete walkthrough for Gears Tactics' '14 Years After E-Day' mission, including Cog tag locations and boss fight tips.
Walkthrough
- 1Upon exiting the cell, choose to either go straight into the fight or take the tutorial. If it's your first time playing Gears Tactics, the tutorial is recommended.
- 2After exiting the hall Dom blocked, head almost directly north in the large room to find the first set of Cog tags (CT1) underneath something red on a wall.
- 3LEFT PATH - STRAIGHT INTO THE FIGHT: After picking up the Cog tags, look left of where you entered the room for a door. Kick it open and roadie run (a quick dash) straight forward from the exit of the room with hanging bodies. Take cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) behind a low wall with two roof supports. Two enemies will appear from the north; use cover and melee if they get too close, as you won't have a shotgun or chainsaw yet.
- 4RIGHT PATH - TUTORIAL: After radio chatter, head up the stairs to the right. Press the button on the desk to open the next door. To open the subsequent door, shoot the two small boxes with orange lights; one is next to the door, the other is across the room to the left. Proceed into the room with small walls for cover. Kick open the door at the other end, follow the path, and go through the doorway on your right. Immediately head forward and take cover behind the low wall.
- 5You may need to reload a checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death) if you die here. The strategy is pop and shoot; avoid letting your health get too low. Melee if an enemy gets too close.
- 6Engage in the roadie run tutorial by hitting the switch inside the small building and holding A to run forward before the door closes.
- 7Exit the room and go down the stairs to your right. Go through the door at the bottom to stock up on grenades.
- 8In the next room, take cover and dispose of all enemies. Follow the path right and down the stairs.
- 9Pick up the four grenades and proceed into the next room. Take cover immediately and pop out to shoot when your health is full. If you are injured even behind cover, find new cover as an enemy may have flanked you.
- 10After killing all enemies, Dom will mention getting ammo. If needed, get ammo from the ammo box under the hanging bodies.
- 11Face the exit door and turn 180 degrees. Head straight until you reach a brown brick wall. Go around it and straight ahead to find a table turned on its side. Look right from the ammo box to see an ammo crate; near this crate is the second Cog tag (CT2).
- 12Head outside.
- 13When Locusts burst through the door, Dom may die. This is an opportunity to learn the mechanic of reviving downed allies by standing over them and pressing X.
- 14Equip a grenade. As the door opens, time your grenade throw to hit the enemies bursting through. If you miss, switch to your gun and start shooting.
- 15When Dom says, "Let's get out of here!", do not follow him immediately. Head towards the hanging bodies and face the exit door. Turn 180 degrees and head straight until you reach a brown brick wall. Go around the wall and straight ahead to find a table turned on its side to your right. Look right from the ammo box to see an ammo crate. Near this crate is the second Cog tag (CT2).
- 16Head outside.
Tips
- The choice between the tutorial and immediate combat depends on your familiarity with Gears Tactics.
- Use cover frequently to avoid enemy fire.
- Melee attacks are a viable option when enemies get too close, especially early on when you lack stronger weapons.
- Pay attention to enemy positioning; if your cover is compromised, quickly find a new position.
- The grenade timing when enemies breach the door can be tricky but rewarding.
- Don't skip the lengthy cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) at the end of the chapter, as it is described as very entertaining.
- The game introduces the mechanic of reviving downed allies (press X over a downed ally) after Dom may fall during the door breach sequence.
