Cygames introduced the Sky Realm with _Granblue Fantasy_ in 2014 for Android/iOS in Japan. _Granblue Fantasy: Relink_ continues this tale for PlayStation and PC, making it available to an international audience. Your adventure is set in Zegagrande, a skydom of floating islands. As captain of a crew of skyfarers, you use the airship Grandcypher to travel between islands. You will investigate why some primal island guardians have begun behaving dangerously and clash with members of a militarized cult. The story, while not exceptionally lengthy, is supported by a massive cast of characters. You start with a crew of five but can recruit additional crew members by collecting crewmate cards, each bringing their own outlook to your quest.
Beyond their varied personalities and backstories, the more than 20 playable characters have individualized weapons, movesets, skills, and abilities. They can be developed through the Masteries system, and you can customize builds by upgrading weapons and equipping a wide variety of Sigils. _Granblue Fantasy: Relink's_ real-time combat is fast-paced, showy, and enjoyable.
In addition to the main story quest, you can undertake many formal quests and side quests. Story missions involve exploration and combat against common enemies. Quest missions primarily pit you against bosses or hordes, resembling a _Monster Hunter_ game more than a conventional RPG, especially at endgame when quests of much higher difficulty are unlocked. You can spend as much time on endgame quests as you did completing the main story. PlayStation Plus subscribers can tackle difficult quests through online play. You can team up with friends or use the game's Matchmaking feature to create or join an online party. Although online play is available and offers advantages, you can play the entire game without it.
The designers and artists of _Granblue Fantasy: Relink_ deliver sharp cel-shaded visuals, from the vividly crafted world to the well-made boss and character models. The voluminous 138-track musical score by Tsutomu Narita ( _Xenoblade Chronicles_) includes contributions from composer Nobuo Uematsu of _Final Fantasy_ fame.
The game has received high ratings from players and critics. Cygames reported that _Granblue Fantasy: Relink_ surpassed one million sales within two weeks of its release.
