The Rifleman is the backbone of any infantry squad in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, serving as the versatile frontline soldier. Armed with reliable, all-around weaponry, Riflemen are expected to engage the enemy, provide suppressive fire, and support their squad's objectives. Their primary weapon, often an M16A1 or a similar assault rifle, offers a balance of range, rate of fire, and stopping power, making it effective in most combat scenarios. While not specializing in heavy firepower or medical support, the Rifleman's adaptability is their greatest asset. They are the first line of defense and offense, crucial for capturing and holding objectives.

A key responsibility of the Rifleman is to effectively utilize their limited grenades. Typically, they carry two fragmentation grenades, which are invaluable for clearing entrenched enemy positions or flushing out hidden enemies. Learn to accurately gauge the throwing distance and arc to maximize their effectiveness. A common mistake is wasting grenades on open ground or using them too early in an engagement. Instead, save them for critical moments when an objective is heavily defended by Viet Cong forces. Furthermore, Riflemen are expected to contribute to squad cohesion by staying with their squad leader and following orders. Their role is not to lone-wolf but to act as a cohesive unit, advancing together and providing mutual support.

While Riflemen do not have the specialized medical capabilities of a Medic, they can perform basic self-healing using their personal bandages. They should always carry a full complement of bandages and use them judiciously to recover from minor wounds, allowing them to stay in the fight longer. They can also pick up ammunition from fallen Support or Machine Gunner players, though their primary ammo resupply comes from their own limited magazine capacity. Understanding the effective range of their chosen weapon is vital. For the M16A1, engaging targets beyond 200 meters can become less effective due to bullet drop and reduced accuracy. Therefore, Riflemen should prioritize engaging targets within their weapon's optimal range and utilize cover to advance towards objectives like the infamous Hamburger Hill. Their consistent presence and ability to engage threats at various ranges make them indispensable for any successful assault or defense.
