Chapter 1: Three Blind Mice

After the opening cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) introducing Yagami and the Genda Law Office, you'll flash forward to December 2018. Your first objective is to defeat a squad of goons who confront you. This section serves as a combat tutorial; completing the actions is recommended for familiarizing yourself with the combat system.

After defeating the goons, your friend Kaito will direct you to Pink Street, which will be marked on your map (east). You are restricted from wandering too far from this destination.

Upon arriving at the marked spot, you will engage in your first "Active Search." Enter first-person camera mode and examine individuals to find your target: the person on the far left wearing a white hat.

Next, you will begin your first "Tailing" mission. Keep the suspect in sight without causing a commotion or being noticed. If the suspect becomes suspicious, the Caution Gauge at the top of the screen (HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)) will fill. You can dodge behind cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) or break the target's line of sight by using walls or creating distance to lower the gauge. If you lose sight of the suspect, a timer will start, and you must regain sight within that time.

Follow the suspect. When he makes a right turn and approaches a vending machine, he will double back. Retreat to the marked hiding spot by the door of the building with columns (Shangri-La) to remain unseen. Wait a few seconds to proceed to the next cutscene.

Continue tailing the detective into the Champion District and follow him into the alley. This concludes the Tailing Mission.

You will enter another Active Search. Your objective is to look up at the sky where Pigeon, your drone, is flying. This triggers the next cutscene.

Confront the detective. He will use a signal flare to distract you and run off, initiating your first Chase Mission. Respond to on-screen button prompts using the Left Stick or face buttons to navigate obstacles. For example, Triangle/Y is used to jump over low objects, and Circle/B is used to climb over fences.

Follow the prompts to reach Park Alley and capture the detective using the Grab button.

You will fight the detective one-on-one. Switch to Tiger Style (press Down on the D-Pad) for single opponents. Defeat him to take the money he was going to give to his bookie.

After the titles, return to the Yagami Detective Agency with Kaito. You will receive spending money and your next destination will be the Genda Law Office.

Before heading to the Law Office, Yagami wants to buy a gift. You are restricted in movement and must go to the Poppo on Tenkaichi St. Purchase the Dorayaki from the clerk.

As you exit, you will be attacked by punks wanting your Dorayaki. This fight introduces the Wall Jump move: hold the Sprint button, run into a wall, and press Weak Attack as you climb to launch yourself off and strike. Defeat the punks to meet Hamura, a yakuza captain.

Head to the Genda Law Office on the west side of Shichifuku St. You can now freely travel throughout Kamurocho and visit stores and restaurants, but you cannot partake in Minigames yet. Speak to Saori, Genda, and Hoshino. Saori will eat the Dorayaki, and you need to speak to Genda about a job.
