Destroy all Semtex control units on the Shell 1-2 Connecting Bridge in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, including specific locations and weapon recommendations.
Walkthrough
- 1Control Units 1 & 2: Located on the floor by the left sensor panels. Shoot them with the SOCOM from the right side of the stairs.
- 2Control Unit 3: Found on the large orange pillar past the sensor panels. Use the SOCOM.
- 3Control Unit 4: Look up at the door opening above you. Use the SOCOM.
- 4Control Unit 5: At the back left corner of the center of the bridge. The PSG1 is a safer bet than the SOCOM, potentially with a Pentazemin for steady aim.
- 5Control Units 6 & 7: On the left and right side walls of the opening to Strut G. The SOCOM or PSG1 work well.
- 6Control Unit 8: On the right side wall by the large "G" wall marking, obstructed by seagulls. Use the PSG1 and shoot near the birds to clear them, or shoot through them.
- 7Control Unit 9: Behind the red-striped "Sons of Liberty" flag on the far left of the Strut G opening. Use the PSG1 scope and shoot through the flag. Confirm panel destruction.
- 8Control Unit 10: Located above a patrolling Cypher. Use the PSG1 and a Pentazemin. Aim ONLY at the control unit above its head; hitting anywhere else will cause all Semtex charges to explode. Wait for the Cypher to stop.
- 9Control Unit 11 (HARD/EXTREME ONLY): At the bottom of the stairs, turn around and look left to find the unit stuck to the wall beside the stairs. Use the SOCOM.
- 10Control Unit 12 (HARD/EXTREME ONLY): From the top left of the balcony before the stairs, look down to the lower level near the large box in the center.
- 11Control Unit 13 (EXTREME ONLY): From the farthest left point of the balcony, look towards the Strut G balcony across the bridge. It's partially sticking out from the left edge balcony wall. The SOCOM can work with precision, but the PSG1 might be easier, possibly with a Pentazemin.
- 12Control Unit 14 (EXTREME ONLY): On a second patrolling Cypher above. Use a Pentazemin and the PSG1. Aim ONLY at the unit above its head; hitting any other part will cause the bridge to explode.
After destroying all 10 control units (on Normal difficulty), the sensor panels will deactivate, triggering a cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically). Pliskin will call you, and you will then face the Harrier boss.
BOSS: HARRIER
Walkthrough
- 1Pick up the STINGER missile launcher and STINGER BULLET X 10 from the bridge. Snake may also throw down RATIONS or more STINGER BULLET X 10 during the fight.
- 2Equip the Stinger and enter its first-person target mode. Use the red arrow on your minimap (a display showing your immediate surroundings and enemy locations) to orient yourself towards the Harrier.
- 3Hover the center target over the Harrier and shoot when the target is outlined in red and you hear a long beep. Lock-on is usually possible, even behind obstacles.
- 4If the Harrier is far away, wait for it to come closer. It often circles the bridge, providing easy shots.
- 5Be mindful of the Kasatka helicopter to avoid friendly fire. If you accidentally target it, aim away to remove the lock. Snake may occasionally shoot the Harrier with the chopper's machine gun, but it's ineffective.
- 6When the Harrier is close and hovering above, aim directly at it and fire continuously for multiple shots. Be cautious of its burners.
- 7The Harrier attacks with dual machine guns, which can knock you down. Use pillar-like objects on the upper level and large blocks on the lower level for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects). Press against them on the side opposite the gunfire and crouch if necessary.
- 8The Harrier has a fast flyby attack that will knock you down if you don't protect yourself.
Tips
- For Control Unit 5, using a Pentazemin can help steady your aim with the PSG1.
- For Control Unit 10 and 14, a Pentazemin is highly recommended due to the precision required to avoid detonating the Semtex charges.
- When targeting the Cyphers for Control Units 10 and 14, wait for them to stop moving to ensure a clean shot.
- If the Harrier is difficult to hit at range, wait for it to hover directly above you.
- Use the cover effectively to avoid the Harrier's machine gun fire.
