The ability to perfectly time dodges and parries is arguably the most crucial defensive mechanic in MUDANG: Two Hearts, separating novice players from seasoned warriors. A standard dodge provides a brief window of invincibility, allowing players to phase through incoming attacks. However, a "Perfect Dodge" occurs when the dodge input is executed precisely as an enemy attack is about to connect. This not only grants a longer invincibility window but also often triggers a "Stagger" effect on the attacking enemy, leaving them vulnerable for a critical counter-attack. The timing window for a Perfect Dodge is very narrow, typically around 0.2 seconds before impact.

Parrying functions similarly, but instead of evading, You attempts to deflect an incoming blow with their weapon or shield. A successful "Perfect Parry" is achieved by timing the parry input just before the enemy's attack lands. A successful parry will negate all incoming damage and stagger the enemy, often opening them up for a devastating riposte. The visual and audio cues for parrying are distinct for each enemy type, and learning these cues is essential. For instance, the heavy, telegraphed swing of a Giant's Club requires a different parry timing than the rapid flurry of attacks from a Shadow Assassin. A successful parry on a strong attack can stagger an enemy for up to 3 seconds, allowing for a full combo.
