Temperature Management: Utilize the Temperature Overlay to identify hot and cold spots. Keep living quarters and greenhouses in temperate zones. Be aware that even a 1-degree Celsius deviation can halt plant growth. High temperatures can incapacitate dupes, leading to scalds and requiring Medbay treatment.

Material Properties: Different materials have unique thermal properties. Granite and sandstone offer decor bonuses and are suitable for sculptures, paintings, and tiles. Igneous rock is thermally inert, ideal for greenhouses. Abyssalite is even better but scarce. Avoid placing heat-generating elements like power generators and batteries near greenhouses.

Food Production: Start with Mealwood for early-game food (Meal Lice), but be mindful of its low quality and dirt requirement. As dupes get promoted, their food expectations rise. Transition to Bristle Blossoms (Gristle Berries when cooked) which require water and light. Consider using coal generators for early power to support greenhouse lighting. Hydroponic farm tiles are more efficient than manual watering. Mushrooms, when fried, offer good calories and quality but require immersion in CO2.

Food Preservation: Food on the floor can rot due to germs. If a greenhouse is filled with CO2, food will not decay as germs need oxygen. Storing food in ration boxes within an ice biome acts as a natural refrigerator, further reducing decay, especially if the box is in CO2.

Dupe Management: Avoid accumulating too many dupes early on. Aim for 3-6 dupes initially, increasing only when food and oxygen production are stable. Build dedicated rooms like barracks (for stamina regeneration) and latrines (for stress relief) to manage dupe morale and efficiency.
