Understand the unique and punishing save and death mechanics in Pathologic 3: Quarantine, and how to mitigate their impact.

Pathologic 3 employs a unique and unforgiving save system. The game auto-saves at the beginning of each new day and at certain critical story points. There is no manual save option. This des choice amplifies the weight of your decisions and the consequences of failure. Death is not the end, but a significant setback. Upon dying, you will be presented with a 'Game Over' screen, but you can choose to 'Continue'. However, continuing after death incurs a permanent penalty, often reducing your maximum health, increasing your hunger/thirst rates, or making certain resources scarcer. These penalties accumulate, making subsequent playthroughs increasingly difficult. Embrace death as a learning experience, but strive to avoid it at all costs.
