Route 1

Your first steps in Pokemon GO! Learn about Route 1, the Pokemon you can catch, and how to start your journey with plenty of Pokeballs.

Alright, so this is gonna feel weird if you've played other Pokémon games before. As soon as you enter Route 1, you'll notice that wild Pokémon are just wandering around. If you move up to one of them, you begin a wild Pokémon encounter. You can't fight them, you can only try and catch them. You have 50 Poké Balls to start with, so don't worry about using them sparingly. Just go up to one of the Pokémon and try to catch it. Feel free to catch as many Pokémon in this area as you want. I would recommend at least catching one or two, as they may come in handy very soon. A full list of the Pokémon in this route is at the start of this section, along with encounter rates and levels, and will be at the start of every section that you can catch Pokémon in!

Once you're ready, head north until you hit Viridian City. If you really want, you can even just dodge all the Pokémon as you're heading through.

• Pidgey — Normal/Flying, 40% Encounter Chance, Levels 3-4, Found on Ground
• Rattata — Normal, 30% Encounter Chance, Levels 3-4, Found on Ground
• Charizard — Fire/Flying, Rare Spawn, Levels 3-4, Found on Ground
• Dragonite — Dragon/Flying, Rare Spawn, Levels 3-4, Found on Ground
• Oddish — Grass/Poison, 30% Encounter Chance, Levels 3-4, Found on Ground (Let's Go Pikachu Only)
• Bellsprout — Grass/Poison, 30% Encounter Chance, Levels 3-4, Found on Ground (Let's Go Eevee Only)
