    As a Novice, purchase a Guard. Do not upgrade your knife.

    If you wish to upgrade your weapon, do so at the Prontera Church, located in the upper right corner of Prontera town.

    Speak to the cleric inside the Prontera Church.

    Follow the cleric's directions to make a pilgrimage and speak to the designated Non-Player Character (NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you)).

    Return to the cleric at the Prontera Church.
