Salt and Sanctuary: Guide to the Village of Smiles

This guide details how to reach the Village of Smiles in Salt and Sanctuary, including item locations, a merchant, and a mini-boss encounter.

Walkthrough

Exit the Sanctuary from the left and return to the area with the hidden door.

Drop down above the hidden door ledge and proceed left, down stone steps, to another door. You will enter _The Festering Banquet_ and encounter _Skullbats_ near an unusable black obelisk.

Continue left, up stairs, to use a lever that opens a gate leading back to the first area of The Festering Banquet. Collect the Arrow (20) and Self Bow near the lever.

Drop back down and head left. Before the jump, note the collapsing floor leading to an item. This jump can be difficult with a heavy equipment burden; consider removing gear to make it. Falling can lead to death. The items here are Bundle of Salt and Soldier's Spear.

Whether you obtained the items or not, proceed to a small ledge with red carpet and head right to find a merchant NPC.

Beyond the merchant, a closed gate is present. Return to the ledge below the collapsing floor.

Jump down a single ledge (an item is to the left). Stand against the wall and press the reveal hidden door button (Circle).

Enter the hidden door. Drop down two ledges to find Lightning Bolt (Spell) and Torch.

Continue dropping to the ground floor. Before proceeding through the doorway, be aware of the Armor Mite mini-boss. Beyond him are Stained Page and Stone Mage. It is possible to avoid the Armor Mite by running past him.

NPC Merchant - The Beggar:

Sells upgrade materials: Lock of Hair and Endless Fang (basic materials, useful for low-level upgrades).
Sells Stained Page, an Arcane enchantment and item used to cleanse Sanctuaries of their Creed. It is not recommended to cleanse Sanctuaries at this point due to tough enemy encounters.
Sells the Doppelsoldner Set (Class 2 Heavy Armor), which offers good resistances for its weight.
Sells boss armor sets after defeating the respective boss. The Doppelsoldner Set is the Sodden Knight's armor.
Warning: This NPC sells Bolts for Crossbows, not Arrows for Bows. Ensure you can use a crossbow before purchasing bolts.

The Armor Mite:

A difficult enemy, especially for melee characters.
Has two main attacks: Lunge and Slash. Can kill melee players in 2-3 hits.
Melee players should avoid direct confrontation. Fire Arrows are recommended if using a bow.
