You begin as Sam Monroe at Mount Gojaku/Hanuda Mine with the objective to 'Search for the Others'. You receive Sam Monroe's Faculty ID (#07) and gain access to the Select menu for maps and archives.

Head past the toppled mine carts and up the stairs. A cutscene will trigger halfway up.

After the cutscene, a tutorial for the alert system will appear. A Shibito is ahead with its back turned. You can sneak past it without turning off your flashlight.

Crouch (O button) and move around the right side of the mine carts. The Shibito will turn and walk away, then crouch with its back turned.

Step out from behind the carts and continue north. You can quickly move behind the carts and out the other side as the Shibito turns away.

If detected, run into the tunnel ahead, grab the metal pipe from the left wall, and defeat the Shibito. It will drop a Mining Pick (#23).

Enter the tunnel ahead. A Metal Pipe (#24) is on the left wall. Press X to pick it up. You can use R1 or [] to swing it, hold for a strong attack, tap for a combo (max 3 swings), or press forward + attack for a lunging attack. You can optionally return to the first Shibito and sneak up for a powerful knockdown.

Proceed further down the tunnel. At the end, you'll see a female Shibito with her back turned, looking through the Mining Office door.

Crouch and approach her. Attack her with the metal pipe once close enough. Be careful not to knock over the water pail on the right, which would alert her.

She will drop a Hand Sickle (#15), which you should pick up.

Special Finish Requirement: Sneak up on the female Shibito by the office window and attack her with the metal pipe. She will be knocked into the door.
