Discover the secret path to World 7 in Spelunky 2! Learn how to acquire the Udjat Eye, Crown, Hedjet, Ankh, Excalibur, and more to reach the hidden areas.
This page details the secret path to World 7 and beyond in Spelunky 2. World 7 is a secret area located past the boss Tiamat. The following is a summary of the items and steps required to reach it:
- Udjat Eye
- Crown or Hedjet
- Ankh
- Excalibur or Scepter
- Abzu or City of Gold
- Tablet of Destiny
- Ushabti
- Qilin
The path can branch in Jungle/Volcana and Tide Pool/Temple, but any route can lead to World 7. The Crown and Hedjet have the same effect regardless of the path taken in Tide Pool or Temple.
For the super secret ending, which is significantly longer and more difficult, two additional items are needed:
- Hou Yi's Bow
- Arrow of Light
Acquiring the Udjat Eye
The Udjat Eye is found on either level 1-2 or 1-3, whichever is not occupied by Yang's Turkey Pen. Locate the Golden Key and bring it to the wooden structure with two ladders and a backroom entrance. Inside the backroom, unlock the ornate chest to find the Udjat Eye. While not strictly necessary for the main path, the Udjat Eye can open a hidden path in world 2.
Acquiring the Crown
If you choose the Volcana route, you must travel to Vlad's Castle. Use the Udjat Eye to activate the purple alien drill at the top of the level and descend to the red castle below. Alternatively, Bombs, a Mattock, or a Spikeball Trap can be used for this descent. The Crown is located at the very top of Vlad's Castle and is required to open a path in world 4.
Acquiring the Hedjet
If you choose the Jungle route, you need to find the Black Market. The Udjat Eye will alert you when you are within approximately 10 tiles of the secret entrance to the Market. Use a Bomb or other means to access the door. Without the Udjat Eye, the entrance can be found by chance, often near backroom areas. In the Market, the Hedjet is available in a shop on the right side for $40000. The Hedjet is also required to open a path in world 4.
Acquiring Hou Yi's Bow
The Moon Challenge can be found in world 2, either before or after the Castle/Market. Enter the challenge and search for Hou Yi's Bow as you dig; it is always in a single block by itself in the lower half of the room. After acquiring the bow, you must leave it with Waddler in world 3. His hideout entrance is hidden behind a block (usually moss-covered) to the right of the ladder near Olmec. Waddler will store the item for later worlds, freeing up your inventory.
Acquiring the Ankh
The Ankh can be found in the backroom of world 3. It is typically obtained by sending Olmec into the lava below and using one of the entrances that appear. Other methods include using a Teleporter from Waddler's room or positioning Olmec below the backroom entrance in the upper right. The Ankh is used in world 4 to access either Abzu or Duat.
Acquiring the Excalibur
If you take the Tide Pool path, the Excalibur can be found in 4-2, one floor below the level exit, stuck in a stone. You must possess either the Crown or the Hedjet to pick it up.
Reaching Abzu
In level 4-3, a hidden level exit can be accessed behind the lava pool at the bottom. To reach this exit, you must trigger a deadly lava trap, so ensure you have the Ankh equipped. First, drop your weapon and back item in a safe place. You must traverse this level twice within three minutes. Locate the pictured backroom entrance and descend to the bottom. The door here can only be used from the inside. The other side leads out below the lava pool. Moving the Golden Idol will trigger a cascade of Powder Boxes, causing the lava to fall on you. After being resurrected, retrieve your gear and find the newly revealed level exit. A Rope may be needed to climb down to it. This exit leads to Abzu.
Surviving the lava trap is extremely difficult but possible. You can practice this from the world 3 shortcut. Using Rope stubs (which remain after burning) allows you to hang below the platform. Bombing the ground below can create enough space for the lava to settle beneath you, typically requiring about ten Bombs. A Teleporter can also be used to ascend through the lava.
Abzu
This boss level replaces 4-4 in the Tide Pool. You start near the bottom of the level, close to the exit door, with the boss, Kingu, located above. Kingu is a giant turtle-like creature that climbs on the back wall and can be heard moving. There is no Ghost on this level.
To reach Kingu, you will need Ropes, a Jetpack, or access to the backroom. A backroom entrance is located below the level entrance, partially submerged. Kingu has a platform on her back where you can fight her. Kingu is invulnerable until her shell is cracked open, which can be done with the Excalibur from 4-2 or with ten Bombs. Bombs can be attached with Paste or dropped from above with good timing. Once cracked, any attack except stomping will damage her, but only at the center scute on her shell. The Excalibur requires 20 slices to defeat her.
Kingu does not attack directly. When within 8 tiles, she spawns enemies from her shell every 7 seconds. These enemies include Jiangshi and Jiangshi Assassins, and Octopies.
Try to approach Kingu quickly to prevent her platform from filling with enemies. Position yourself to hit her shell while simultaneously defeating any spawned enemies. Facing backwards can be effective. Upon defeat, Kingu drops the Tablet of Destiny. Before leaving, be sure to collect any remaining items.
