Discover all the ways to unlock music tracks in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, from the Vault Shop and Classic Mode to DLC and Adventure Mode. Learn how to manage your music collection and set stage-specific tunes.

You can unlock new songs in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by exchanging Gold in the Vault Shop, as a random reward for completing Classic Mode, beating challenges, finding them in Adventure Mode, or purchasing DLC. Music tracks can also be obtained from the Home-Run Contest starting from Ver. 5.0.0. The game begins with 717 default music tracks, with 159 more to find and unlock, totaling 876 tracks (excluding DLC). As of Ver. 13.0.0, this number can increase up to 1068 with the purchase of Challenger Pack DLCs and cosmetic DLCs.

How to Listen to Songs While not Playing:

Navigate to: Vault → Sounds → Music. Select a series (e.g., Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong), highlight a track, and press START or A to listen. L skips up the list, and R skips down. These commands can also be performed by clicking the corresponding symbols in the bottom left corner. Greyed-out arrows indicate 'Normal Playback' mode, where the list plays and stops. Clicking the repeat symbol activates 'Repeat All,' which restarts the list from the beginning. Clicking it again activates 'Shuffle' for random playback. Clicking 'Shuffle' again activates 'Repeat Song' (1) for continuous playback of a single track. Clicking 'Repeat Song' returns to 'Normal Playback.'

Playlists

Playlists allow you to save favorite songs and play them anytime, even combining songs from different series. To create a playlist: Vault → Sounds (ignore 'Playlists' for now) → Music. Go into a category (e.g., 'All'), highlight a song, press Y, select 'Create Playlist,' and name it. Repeat to add more songs, selecting your named playlist instead of creating a new one.

Once songs are added, go to: Vault → Sounds → Playlists. Open your playlist and select a track to play. The playback options (Normal, Repeat All, Shuffle, Repeat Song) described previously can be used here. You can continue listening to the current song while browsing menus, but the playlist will not progress, and the current song will repeat. The song stops playing when you enter a mode. Playlists cannot be selected or listened to while fighting.

How to Change Which Song Plays on a Stage When Fighting

In modes like Smash, you can select the song for a battle by pressing Y when the stage is highlighted on the stage select screen. Press Y again to preview a song before confirming your selection with A. 'Randomize Music' selects a random song, but it heavily favors certain tracks. To adjust song selection odds: Vault → Sounds → My Music. Select the stage, then highlight a song. Pressing left or right on the directional controls adjusts a blue bar between 'Rarely' and 'Often.' Moving the bar towards 'Often' increases the song's chance of being selected with 'Randomize Music,' while moving it towards 'Rarely' decreases it. 'Reset to Default' is available at the bottom of the list. Changes are saved upon exiting.

Each stage has a specific list of songs that can be chosen, typically related to the stage or series. Songs not on this list cannot be selected, even if unlocked. Refer to the Music List for stage-specific song compatibility.

How to Change Which Song Plays on the Menu

To change the menu song, you must first unlock the true ending in Adventure mode by defeating Galeem & Dharkon simultaneously in the final round. After this, you will receive a prompt: "Menu songs have been added to My Music!" Navigate to Vault → Sounds → My Music. The 'Menu' option is the first tile, and the pointer should already be highlighting it. Adjust song frequencies similarly to stage songs.
