The Alters is a complex game with many moving parts, including time management, resource gathering, and crafting. While in-game tutorials exist, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Your primary objective is to escape the planet before the sun rises, which requires careful time management to complete tasks without becoming exhausted. The evacuation process involves refueling your base, manufacturing equipment, and securing enough food and rations.

Base Building Tips

Access the base building menu via the Command Center terminal. Modules must be placed adjacent to existing ones. Green highlights indicate valid placement spots. Ensure sufficient storage and manage base mass to allow for travel.

Modules can be moved or swapped using the Left Mouse Button (LMB) and deleted with the Right Mouse Button (RMB), though some are immovable.

Base Mass

Each module increases base weight, requiring more Fuel (organics) for travel. Upgrade storage and the Organics Tank to meet journey demands. Use your Scanner to find Organics deposits and connect them via Mining Outposts and Pylons.

Tiredness and Exhaustion

All actions consume energy. Monitor your Energy Bar to avoid becoming tired, which slows task completion. Exhaustion bleeds into the next day, reducing available awake time. Careful time management is critical for completing tasks and evacuating.

Crafting

Crafting is managed through the Workshop Queue via the “TAB” key and “Production” menu. Select the workshop, then the item to craft. Actual crafting occurs at the designated Workbench (e.g., Kitchen Workbench) using the “E” key. Crafting consumes significant energy.
