Navigate Part 39 of Tony Hawk's Underground with this guide. Learn about Free Skate, Firefight, and the extensive 2 Player Menu options.

Alright, let's dive into Part 39 of Tony Hawk's Underground. This section covers some of the multiplayer modes and a whole lot of menu options. Don't worry, we'll break it all down so you know exactly what's what.

Free Skate

Think of Free Skate as your playground. You can pick any level you've unlocked and just skate around, messing with tricks and lines. It's basically the same as the single-player Free Skate, but you can't start a High Score Run here. So, no pressure, just pure fun and practice.

Firefight

This is a pretty cool multiplayer addition. Instead of your usual tricks, you get "FIRE!" and "REVERSE FIRE!".

  • FIRE! shoots a fireball straight ahead from your board.
  • REVERSE FIRE! shoots a fireball from the back of your board.

You can even do Double, Triple, and Quadruple versions of these fire attacks! Each player starts with 100 HP (Health Points, not Half Pipes in this mode). Each FIRE! attack does 10 HP of damage. So, you need to hit your opponent ten times with these fireballs to win the match.

2 Player Menu Breakdown

This is where you'll spend most of your time in this section, setting up your games and customizing your experience. Here's what each option does:

-start game-

This is straightforward – you select your game type and confirm any other settings before you jump in.

-change levels-

You can switch the level you're playing on, but only when a round has finished or before one has even started. Can't change it mid-game, obviously!

-end current game-

Exactly what it sounds like: quits out of the game you're currently playing.

-split mode-

Lets you switch the screen split for multiplayer. You can go from vertical to horizontal, depending on what works best for you and your buddy.

-options

This is the big one, with tons of sub-menus:

-screen mode-

Choose between standard and widescreen display options.

-sound options-

  • -songs-: Decide if you want your playlist songs to play alphabetically by artist or in a random order.
  • -skip track-: If you're not feeling the current song, just skip it.
  • -playlist-: Here you can see your entire song list. You can turn songs on or off, remove entire genres, and even preview tracks using the Grab button.
  • -music level-: Adjust the music volume from 0 to 10.
  • -sound level-: Control the volume of sound effects, also from 0 to 10.
  • -special sounds-: Toggle on or off those satisfying sounds, like the BAM! when you nail a Special trick.
  • -done-: Takes you back to the main options menu.

-display options-

You can choose to show or hide various on-screen elements like your Special Meter, combo score, combo string, console windows, and balance meters. They still work even if they're not visible, but it's nice to have the option to clean up your screen.

-interface themes-

This lets you customize the look of your menus. You start with a few basic themes (CLOUDBUSTER, RETRO HAWK, CHILLED, SKULLZ 'N STUFF, T.H.U.G.), but you can unlock more by choosing sponsors or unlocking secret characters. Some of the unlockable themes include SPONSOR 1 - BIRDHOUSE, SPONSOR 1 - ELEMENT, SPONSOR 3 - FLIP, SPONSOR 4 - GIRL, SPONSOR 5 - ZERO, and even secret ones like KISS, IRONMAN, and T.H.U.D.

-cheats-

If you've unlocked any cheats, you can turn them on or off here. Handy for when you just want to mess around or tackle a tough spot.

-done-

Takes you back to the main 2 Player Menu.

-quit-

Exits the 2 Player Menu entirely.
