Part 1
Your friend-like guide to Tony Hawk's Underground Part 1. Learn about characters, gameplay, and get ready to shred your way to pro status!
Alright, welcome to Tony Hawk's Underground! I'm here to walk you through the game, just like we're hanging out and playing it together. This guide is gonna cover the Normal-difficulty Story Mode, plus all the cool extras like cutscenes, secret levels, characters, and even the 2 Player mode.
Tony Hawk's Underground, or THUG as we call it, really shook things up from the older games like THPS4. The biggest new thing? You can hop off your board! This opens up so many new areas and ways to play. Plus, you can cruise around in cars and, yeah, you'll definitely be annoying the cops while you go from being a nobody skater to a total pro. They've also packed the game with tons of stuff to unlock and a bunch of new and returning pro skaters to meet.
Meet the Crew:
First off, there's YOU – a custom skater, guy or girl, who grew up shredding in Jersey. The whole story is about your journey from a street punk to a skateboarding superstar.
Then there's Eric Sparrow, your buddy who gets you into some trouble with some shady characters on Elm Street. He'll be with you from New Jersey all the way to Florida. Just remember, you might wonder why he sticks around... maybe it's not just loyalty!
Stacy Peralta, who runs the local skate shop, is your ticket to getting sponsored and joining Team Peralta. But she's not just gonna hand it to you; you'll have to earn it.
You'll also run into Todd, the manager for whichever AM team you join. He's got a serious appetite, that one.
In Russia, you'll meet Kalo, a local gangster type who helps you out when you first arrive and then again when you need to get home.
Watch out for Ralphie, a Pro skater on Todd's team. He's got a distinctive scar or tattoo on his face and a knack for finding trouble with the law, often getting nabbed by security guards.
Jordan and Bender are also Pro skaters on Todd's team. Jordan pops up a lot in cutscenes, helping move the story along, while Bender seems a bit insecure about his masculinity.
Jonny Turbo leads the Street Warriors, a crew of drag racers in Jersey. He's usually around to lend a hand if you're in a tight spot.
And if you're aiming for Team Peralta, you'll have to impress Shawn, Joey, and Chris – they're all skaters on Stacy's team who will test your skills.
Finally, there's Ollie the Bum. Nobody knows much about this mysterious homeless guy. He shows up all over the place, from California to Hawaii, and even back home in Jersey and Manhattan. Some say he can float, and his only known fear is the Pink Elephant Brigade.
Skate Lingo:
This section is where we'll cover all the cool skating terms that don't quite fit into a specific level. It's good to know the lingo!
Part 10
Complete Part 10 of Tony Hawk's Underground with this guide. Learn how to make the car catch fire, deliver nuts for vendors, and gap the burning taxi.
- 1CAR
Goal: Make the car catch fire and ditch it!
Hint: Drive the car around Manhattan to overheat the engine. It catches fire at 300 degrees. Drive around the block, using the handbrake for corners. Maintain speed for the engine to catch fire as you turn the corner of 78 Water. Once aflame, you have 30 seconds to reach The Waterfront and launch the car off a Quarter Pipe (QP) to avoid exploding.
- 2HELP THE LOCAL SKATER (Part 1)
Goal: Get nuts from the vendors and bring them to the guards.
Time: 0:20. Holding the ollie button helps. An arrow will guide you to nut vendors. Deliver nuts to guards at The Banks, JP Building, and the Metro Station. Each delivery adds 20 seconds to the clock.
- 3HELP THE LOCAL SKATER (Part 2)
Goal: Get Special and nail the New York Nutbuster.
Time: 1:30. Use the grinding rails and QPs at JP Building to build Special meter. Launch from a QP and perform LEFT-RIGHT-GRAB to execute the Nutbuster trick and access the Custom Trick menu.
- 4GAP THE BURNING TAXI (FINAL)
Goal: Hit the tricks while gapping the burning taxi.
Time: 1:30. Use the ramp in front of the taxi on The Banks side to launch over it. You must hit the 'Car Hop' gap for tricks to register. Rebounding off the opposite QP can provide necessary speed. Angle yourself to avoid bailing.
- 5HELP STACY'S RELATIVE
Goal: Nail 50,000 points inside the JP Building.
Time: 2:00. Focus on grind rails and QPs on the third floor of JP Building for scoring.
- 6OLD SCHOOL SKATING TECHNIQUES (No Comply)
Goal: No Comply five times.
Time: 1:00. Hit Up and the ollie button simultaneously.
- 7OLD SCHOOL SKATING TECHNIQUES (No Comply over barrier)
Goal: No Comply over the barrier.
Time: 1:00. Move towards the glowing barrier and perform a No Comply over it.
- 8OLD SCHOOL SKATING TECHNIQUES (No Comply combo)
Goal: Follow the combo command.
Time: 1:00. No Comply onto a glowing bench, land in a manual, jump off, and perform a Kickflip before landing.
- 9OLD SCHOOL SKATING TECHNIQUES (Boneless)
Goal: Boneless five times.
Time: 1:00. Tap Up twice, then ollie.
- 10OLD SCHOOL SKATING TECHNIQUES (Boneless over wall)
Goal: Boneless over the wall.
Time: 1:00. Head for the glowing wall and perform a Boneless to clear it.
- 11OLD SCHOOL SKATING TECHNIQUES (Boneless off QP)
Goal: Boneless off the QP.
Time: 1:00. Tap Up twice before hitting the QP, then jump upon contact for maximum air.
- 12FIND THE STOLEN SKATESHOP GOODS
Goal: Take the stolen goods from the native skaters.
Time: 3:30. Chase the five skaters marked with skull symbols across Manhattan. This goal is best attempted with advanced grinding and vert combo skills.
- For the CAR mission, maintaining speed is key to overheating the engine quickly. Avoid sharp turns.
- In the 'HELP THE LOCAL SKATER' missions, using the ollie button and following the on-screen arrow will help you efficiently collect and deliver the nuts.
- For 'GAP THE BURNING TAXI', speed and precise angling are crucial. Rebounding off the opposite QP can provide the necessary momentum.
- The 'HELP STACY'S RELATIVE' mission requires high-score execution; the third floor of JP Building offers good opportunities with its rails and QPs.
- Mastering the timing for 'No Comply' (Up + Ollie simultaneously) and 'Boneless' (Up twice, then Ollie) is essential for the old-school techniques.
- The 'FIND THE STOLEN SKATESHOP GOODS' mission can be challenging due to the skaters' movement; consider saving it for later if you struggle.
Part 11
Complete walkthrough for Part 11 of Tony Hawk's Underground, covering all mission objectives, collectibles, and key locations like SPOT, Bro Bowl, and the Docks.
- 1REMOVE ALL THE STICKERS (Time: 2:00)
- Wallride over five stickers. The first is off the starting ramp. The second is on the SPOT competition building. The third is on the Detective Hut wall. The fourth is between the SPOT practice building and The Bank. The fifth is near the strip club.
- 2GET THE BEST DONUTS (Time: 1:00)
- Collect 12 donuts. A difficult grind is on a plank over a chain link fence between donuts 2 and 3; use double-jump if needed.
- 3THE SKATEBOARD BANDIT (Time: 0:05)
- Collect all money bills starting from the bank's top floor. Use manuals and grinds to reach ledges and concrete barriers near the strip club for the final cash.
- 4HELP THE PRIVATE EYE
- Grind the car five times (Time: 1:00): The stationary car is across from the strip club. Caveman onto it for easier grinding.
- 5Kickflip over the strip club's awning (Time: 1:00): Use a QP on one side of the strip club to perform a Kickflip over the awning. Bail early if overshooting.
- 6Deliver all the drycleaning (Time: 0:15): Deliver garments to five people. The Red Arrow indicates direction. Each delivery adds 10 seconds. Failure to deliver results in failure. Locations: near "Art", across from the first guy under an awning, under a brown building's awning, at the strip club, and in front of the bathroom in Peacock Park.
- 7REVENGE!!! FINAL (Time: 1:00)
- Grind down the signs.
Locations:
- Bro Bowl: Located in Peacock Park, suitable for grinds and vert tricks.
- Bowl Park: Next to the docks, featuring QPs, bowls, and ledges; considered a good area for lines.
- Detective Hut: A small building in the southwest of the central area.
- Docks: Southwest corner with a swampy area, a crocodile, Wet Beaver's Party Boat, and Bart's Chili House, featuring a rail and QPs.
- Drawbridge: On the south border, useful for wallplanting.
- Peacock Park: Covers most of the west side, containing TrickObs.
- SPOT (Skate Park of Tampa): Central area with two buildings separated by ramps. One building has a pool and ramps for training; the other has ramps, benches, and spectator areas for competitions. Roofs have ramps and grindables.
- Strip Club: Northeast corner building with QPs, rails, and a hidden roof bowl.
- Wet Beaver's Party Boat: A narrow half-pipe located in the southwest corner, behind Bart's Chili Hut and past the alligator.
Secret Tape:
- Located in the very back of the level, between the drawbridge and Bowl Park, next to the "Art" building. To access it, climb onto the Detective's hut roof, grab the wire, shimmy to the white building's roof, and fall into the Tape. Collecting all tapes unlocks the "Pro Bails 1" video.
Part 12
Complete Part 12 of Tony Hawk's Underground by destroying five Mayor Jed signs in Tampa, avoiding cop cars, and mastering skate tricks on the party boat.
- 1Destroy Mayor Jed Signs: There are five signs in Tampa. They are highlighted by THUG marks.
- Sign 1: Directly in front of you. Grind at the top of a quarter pipe (QP) and cross the wire holding the sign.
- 2Sign 2: On the large gray building next to the strip club. Use a small ramp to reach it. Tap the grind button when you reach the sign to mow it down.
- 3Sign 3: Across the street from the strip club, in the same clearing as the cheating couples' car.
- 4Sign 4: In Peacock Park, just beyond the sidewalk.
- 5Sign 5: Head towards the Private Eye's building; the fifth sign should be in sight.
- 6Avoid Cop Cars:
- Goal: Avoid cop cars.
- 7Time: 1:00
- 8Hint: Follow the giant green arrows on the street. Each one you hit or come close to will make the next one appear. A Red Arrow also points the way. Cop cars will occasionally block the road. Memorize the routes to get through. The final green arrow is on the ramp next to Bart's Chili House. Hitting this will send your car into the river. The cop car has good handling but a poor top speed.
- 9Party Boat Skate Tricks:
- Goal: Nail the tricks on the boat.
- 10Time: 1:00
- 11Hint: Perform tricks called out by Bam Margera on Wet Beaver's Party Boat. The boat is mostly a half-pipe. If you are about to fall into the water, get off your board to save progress and time. The tricks are basic flip and grab tricks.
- 12Wallplant Combo:
- Goal: Wallplant off the drawbridge and manual through the cones.
- 13Time: 2:00
- 14Hint: To wallplant, ollie at a wall and press ollie and down on the joystick upon contact. Wallplant off the drawbridge to rebound. Land in a manual and maintain balance through three sets of cones. The last cone is at the bottom of a hill in an intersection.
- 15Beat Andrew's Best Combos:
- Goal: Get more than 10,000 points in a combo.
- 16Time: 0:31
- 17Hint: Start by grinding the ledge of Bart's Chili Hut. This is a difficult combo challenge. Losing the combo before reaching the score requires restarting the entire sequence. The level's grinds and verts can be poorly aligned, and flatland areas may not lead anywhere useful.
- 18Goal: Get more than 10,000 points in a combo.
- 19Time: 0:31
- 20Hint: Start over the water near the drawbridge. Falling into the water or bailing is more likely here. Start the combo at street level for better chances.
- 21Goal: Beat a 10,000 point combo.
- 22Time: 0:31
- 23Hint: Start on the roof of the SPOT Contest building. Link tricks between this roof and the practice building's roof for a long combo line. Alternatively, go to street level to find other combo opportunities.
- 24Bowl Grind:
- Goal: Grind down all the bottles in The Bowl using one combo.
- 25Time: 2:00
- 26Hint: In Bro Bowl, grind on the outside rim of The Bowl and maintain balance to hit all four sets of bottles in one combo.
- 27Prove Yourself:
- Goal: Follow the instructions.
- 28Time: 1:00
- 29Hint: Land a trick with at least a 360 spin using the surrounding QPs. Then, do at least a 540 spin and revert it.
- 30Impress Tony Hawk (Final):
- Goal: Nail the tricks and spins.
- 31Time: 1:30
- 32Hint: Complete a list of tricks, some requiring exact degrees of spinnage. Avoid over-spinning.
- 33Goal: Beat Tony Hawk's score.
- 34Time: 1:00
- 35Hint: In the same large HP used previously, score higher than Tony Hawk. Focus on vert combos, linking tricks with reverts, manuals, and walking. Stay close to the HP as you cannot travel far.
