Total War: Three Kingdoms Part 25 covers Sicily, Portugal, Scotland, and Denmark. Learn about their units, strategies, and goals.
Sicily Strategy: Sicily's strategy mirrors that of Venice and Milan. Begin by conquering Venice and Milan to secure Northern Italy. This may strain relations with the Holy Roman Empire (HRE), the Pope, and the Byzantines. You can optionally cede Ragusa to the Papal States to avoid a border conflict with the Byzantines. Focus on conquering the HRE to the North. If you are concerned about excommunication, you can instead target the Byzantines to the East. At some point, you should also capture Corsica and Sardinia. Once the HRE or Byzantines are defeated, the other becomes your next logical target. If a Crusade for Jerusalem is called, participate to receive a discount on its conquest.
Portugal Goals:
- Short: Hold 15 Regions, Eliminate Spain, Eliminate The Moors
- Long: Hold 45 Regions, including Granada, Jerusalem
Portugal Starting Locations: Pamplona, Lisbon (Capital)
Portugal Buildings: Portugal has access to the Plaza Del Toro, which increases public order by 5% through happiness and allows the recruitment of Jinetes (4). This building cannot be upgraded. Portugal also has access to tourney fields and naval academies.
Portugal Jousting:
- Level 1: +1 Experience for Knights recruited there.
- Level 2: +2 Experience for Knights recruited there, 1 free upkeep unit, and +5% public order from happiness.
Portugal Naval Academy:
- Level 1: 10% discount on ship training costs, +1 experience for ships with cannons recruited here.
- Level 2: 20% discount on ship training costs, +1 experience for ships with cannons recruited here.
Portugal Units: Portugal's units are nearly identical to Spain's, with minor name variations (e.g., Aventuros vs. Tercio Pikemen). They also feature Dismounted Portuguese Knights (21 Attack, 13 Defence), and their Portuguese Arquebusiers are superior to Spain's, also gaining access to Musketeers. The strategy for Portugal is also identical to Spain, with the exception of targeting Spain instead of Portugal.
Scotland Goals:
- Short: Hold 15 regions, Eliminate England
- Long: Standard Catholic
Scotland Starting Locations: Edinburgh (capital)
Scotland Buildings: Scotland has access to Libraries at castles, enabling the recruitment of Spies and Diplomats. An upgrade, Academies, allows for the recruitment of Assassins at castles.
Scotland Units:
- Infantry: Scotland possesses quality infantry, including strong pike units. The Noble Pikemen unit is considered one of the best recruitable anti-cavalry units in the game, though Swiss and Papal Guards, along with some late-game mercenary groups, are slightly superior. They also have Noble Swordsmen (akin to Dismounted Chivalric Knights) and Dismounted Feudal Knights.
- Missile Units: Scotland's missile units are notably weak. They lack Arquebusiers, their archers are inferior to England's, and they do not have any crossbow units.
- Artillery: Unlike their missile units, Scotland's artillery is well-equipped, featuring Serpentines and "Cannons", though they do not get Basilisks.
- Cavalry: While variety is limited, Scotland has the standard Feudal Knights. To match the cavalry of France, Spain, or the Holy Roman Empire, they must rely on Hospitaller/Templar Knights.
Scotland Strategy: Scotland begins in a precarious position with only one settlement. Immediate conquest is essential. Use your standing armies to quickly capture York, Inverness, and Dublin with some assistance. Subsequently, build up armies for a war with England. An alliance with France is advisable. After defeating England and conquering any remaining rebels in Northern France/Germany, you must decide your next target: France, the Holy Roman Empire, Denmark, or Spain. If France is your ally, target Denmark first, then the HRE, and proceed into Northern Italy and Scandinavia. You can then choose between France or Eastern Europe. If France has broken its alliance or been conquered (which has been observed), France becomes the preferable target.
Denmark Goals:
- Short: Hold 20 Regions, Eliminate HRE
- Long: Standard Catholic
Denmark Starting Locations: Arhus (Capital)
Denmark Buildings: Denmark has access to naval academies.
Denmark Naval Academy:
- Level 1: 10% discount on ship training costs, +1 experience for ships recruited here.
- Level 2: 20% discount on ship training costs, +1 experience for ships recruited here.
Denmark Units: As a Viking faction, Denmark boasts excellent infantry. Their primary weakness is a lack of anti-cavalry units in large numbers, though they do possess Spear Militia, Swordstaff Militia, and Obudshaer. In addition to Dismounted Feudal and Chivalric Knights, they also field Norse Axemen (Armor).
