In Toukiden 2, missions are your primary means of progression, acquiring valuable materials, and honing your Slayer skills. Understanding the different mission types and their underlying structure is crucial for efficient gameplay and successful Oni hunting.

Mission Hub: The Command Center

All missions are accepted and managed from the Command Center within Mahoroba Village. Speak to the designated NPC (typically the Elder or a quest-giver) to browse available missions. Missions are categorized by their difficulty, indicated by a star rating, and often by their objective type.

Before embarking on any mission, always:

• Check the Objective: Clearly understand what needs to be done. Is it an extermination, collection, or a specific boss fight?
• Review Rewards: Note the potential materials, Mitama, and Haku (currency) you can earn. This helps prioritize missions based on your current needs.
• Assess Recommended Level: While not a strict barrier, missions significantly above your current Slayer level will be challenging.
• Prepare Your Loadout: Equip the appropriate weapon, armor, and Mitama for the mission's challenges. Consider elemental resistances and weaknesses of anticipated Oni.

Types of Missions

Toukiden 2 features several distinct mission types, each offering unique challenges and rewards:

1. Extermination Missions

These are the most common mission type, tasking you with defeating a specific number or type of Oni. They can range from clearing out small Imp hordes to taking down colossal, named fiends.

• Small Oni Extermination:
  • Objective: Eliminate a set number of smaller Oni (e.g., 10 Imps, 5 Manhunter).
  • Strategy: Focus on efficient area-of-effect attacks if facing multiple foes. Use your Demon Hand to quickly dispatch weaker Oni or to gather materials from their remains.
  • Rewards: Primarily common Oni materials like Imp Horns, Manhunter Fangs, and Haku. Good for early-game material farming.
• Large Oni Extermination:
  • Objective: Defeat one or more large, named Oni (e.g., a single Chthonian Fiend, two Pyropterixes).
  • Strategy: These require more tactical combat. Focus on severing body parts using your Demon Hand to obtain rare materials. Exploit elemental weaknesses. Bring healing items like Medicinal Herbs and Panacea.
  • Rewards: Crucial for obtaining rare materials like Chthonian Fiend Horns, Pyropteryx Wings, and potentially new Mitama. These materials are essential for crafting high-tier weapons and armor at the Blacksmith.

2. Collection Missions

These missions require you to gather a specific quantity of items from the field or from defeated Oni.

• Objective: Collect X number of items (e.g., 5 Spiritwood Branches, 3 Glimmering Ore).
• Strategy:
  • Field Gathering: Explore the mission area thoroughly. Look for glowing spots on the ground, trees, or rock formations. Use your Demon Hand's search ability to highlight nearby gathering points.
  • Oni Drops: Some collection missions require items dropped by specific Oni. Consult your Slayer Records to see which Oni drop the required materials. Focus on severing parts if the item is a rare drop from a specific body part.
• Rewards: Often provide crafting materials that are difficult to find in the open world, or a significant amount of Haku.

3. Special Request Missions

These missions are often tied to the main story progression or specific NPC requests. They can involve unique objectives not covered by other categories.

• Objective: Varies greatly. Could be escorting an NPC, investigating a specific area, or performing a ritual.
• Strategy: Pay close attention to the mission briefing and any dialogue from your companions. These often provide clues for unique mechanics or objectives.
• Rewards: Frequently unlock new story segments, new areas on the map, or grant unique Mitama.

4. Joint Operations (Multiplayer)

While Toukiden 2 is an open-world experience, traditional mission structures are still present for multiplayer. These missions are designed for cooperative play with other Slayers, either online or with AI companions.

• Objective: Typically large Oni extermination missions with increased difficulty and rewards.
• Strategy: Coordinate with your team. Assign roles (e.g., damage dealer, support, part breaker). Utilize combined Demon Hand attacks for massive damage and efficient part severing.
• Rewards: Yield the rarest and most powerful materials, essential for endgame crafting and optimizing your build. Many high-tier Mitama are also found in these challenging encounters.
