Master the Translocator in Unreal Tournament 2004 CTF and BR. Learn its uses, tactics, and limitations for advanced gameplay.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Fire the Translocator disc (the little disc you can teleport to, not the weapon itself) in a long arc. It leaves a visible, team-coloured trail.
  2. 2
The Translocator will bounce until it comes to rest and displays a visible light of your team’s colour, indicating it is operational. If it does not have a light, it is broken and unsafe to teleport to.
  3. 3
Pressing the Primary Fire button again will recall the Translocator, allowing you to fire another.
  4. 4
Walking over your own Translocator will also pick it up.
  5. 5
Launching a Translocator into any of the map’s traps will automatically recall it.
  6. 6
Once picked up or recalled, you can fire another Translocator.
  7. 7
Pressing the “Translocator” button (the one that equips the weapon) will switch your perspective to a first-person view of the Translocator itself (Translocator Camera).
  8. 8
You can view the Translocator Camera for as long as you like without using ammo, but it blinds you to your immediate surroundings. Your character’s controls will still function based on camera direction and movement inputs.
  9. 9
Pressing the Secondary Fire button will teleport you to your launched Translocator if one is active. If not, it makes a buzz.
  10. 10
You can teleport to your Translocator at any point during its flight and at any time after it lands, until you recall it or pick it up.
  11. 11
Each teleportation uses one Translocator, which regenerates over time.
  12. 12
You cannot fire Translocators until at least 1 ammo point regenerates if you have run out.
  13. 13
Teleporting while carrying the flag will cause you to drop it.
  14. 14
After shooting or passing the ball in Bombing Run, your Translocator count is reduced to zero, and you must wait for at least 2 to regenerate to fire again.
  15. 15
Teleporting to a Translocator with an enemy standing over it will kill that enemy.
  16. 16
Warning: Teleporting to a broken Translocator will kill you.
Tips
  • Enemy fire will not destroy a Translocator, but it will render it useless.
  • The Translocator is not useful in Deathmatch (DM), Team Deathmatch (TDM), Domination (DOM), or Assault (AS) game modes.
  • In Onslaught (ONS), transportation is handled by vehicles, and teleportation is only allowed between friendly, non-threatened Nodes.
  • In CTF, use “Translocator locomotion” by throwing a Translocator far away, teleporting to it, then throwing another even further. This is faster than running or dodge-jumping.
  • Use the Translocator to reach high or inaccessible places, or get through small openings.
  • For inaccessible high places, use “Translocator climbing”: find a standable spot within reach, shoot a Translocator there, teleport, and repeat if necessary. Climbing the tower in CTF-FaceClassic is an example.
  • Use the Translocator as a “back door” into the enemy base by leaving one in an inconspicuous place before returning or guarding the flag carrier.
  • In BR, teleport far ahead of the enemy team to bypass them, as they will likely focus on the ball carrier.
  • Look for an elevated or clear spot in BR to receive a pass.
  • If killed in BR, use “Translocator locomotion” to quickly return to the action.
  • Warning: Do not attempt to shoot the ball far ahead and teleport after it in BR, as the Translocator takes a long time to recharge after passing or shooting.
  • The Translocator Camera is not very useful and could cause you to walk off a cliff if not careful.
