Hey there! So you've got Wii Fit and you're ready to get started? Awesome! Think of this guide as your friendly coach, walking you through everything you need to know to make the most of it. We'll cover how to do your Body Tests, dive into all the different training options like Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics, and those fun Balance Games, and even show you how to unlock new stuff as you go. Let's get you moving and feeling great!
First things first: The Basics
Before we jump into the fun stuff, let's cover the essentials. You'll need a Wii Remote for selecting things, and sometimes for certain exercises. The Nunchuck might come into play for a couple of activities too. And of course, the star of the show, the Wii Balance Board, is essential for almost everything. Make sure you've got all these ready!
When you first boot up Wii Fit, you might need to do a system update. After that, it's time to create your profile. You'll pick your Mii, and the Balance Board will introduce itself. Just follow the prompts to enter your age, height, and other details. Once that's done, you'll do your very first Body Test – we'll get to that in a bit! You can also set up a password to keep your profile private.
Navigating the Menus
The main menu is your hub. You'll see your Miis chilling at the bottom, and above them is a graph showing your Body Mass Index (BMI) and Fit Credits. To the left, you can hop back to the Wii Menu or create a New Profile for up to eight Miis. On the right, Settings lets you install the Wii Fit Channel (super handy for doing a Body Test without the disc!), check your Balance Board, and view credits. You can also access the Trial mode here to use Guest Miis for tests or training.
Your Profile Details
Once you select your Mii, you'll go to Your Profile. Here you'll find your calendar. To the right, you can return to the main menu (Wii Fit Plaza) or view your progress in the Graph, which shows your BMI, weight, Wii Fit Age, and Fit Credits. On the left, under User Settings, you can Edit Profile (change Mii, height, DOB, password), Change Design (calendar color, stamp design), Change Trainer (male or female), or Delete User Data if needed. Below the graph, you'll see options for Body Test and Training.
What's a Body Test?
The Body Test is where you get a snapshot of your current fitness. It measures your weight, BMI, and your center of balance. When it asks about your clothes, just pick the option that best fits what you're wearing – Light, Heavy, or Other. Then, carefully step onto the Balance Board and stand as still as you can. Sometimes you'll be asked to close your eyes. After the measurements, you'll see your results. Try to get that red dot right in the center of the balance display – it's all about good posture! Your BMI should ideally be in the 'Normal' range. And, of course, check the scale to see your weight progress.
After your main Body Test, you'll do two balance tests to determine your Wii Fit Age. There are five in total: the Basic Balance Test (keeping a bar steady), the Walking Test (walking in place), the Agility Test (shifting your balance to hit targets), the Single-Leg Balance Test (standing on one foot), and the Steadiness Test (staying perfectly still). The goal is to get a Wii Fit Age that's the same as or lower than your real age. If you do two Body Tests in a day, it'll ask which one you want to save.
Let's Get Training!
The Training menu is where the real workout happens! On the left, you'll see your Fit Credits, which represent the time you've spent exercising – more credits unlock more activities! You can choose a male or female trainer. During exercises, you'll often see a yellow circle and a red dot; the goal is to keep the dot inside the circle by moving your body. Other exercises might involve keeping a bar within a blue area or a red line centered on a graph. Balance games often use a blue area on a graph to guide your performance.
After Yoga and Strength Training, you'll get a grade based on your center of balance and earn stars (0-49 pts = 1 star, 49-69 pts = 2 stars, 70-89 pts = 3 stars, 90-100 pts = 4 stars). Aerobics and Balance Games are scored differently, often by points or completion time. Keep an eye out for exercises you can unlock, and you can also increase repetitions, time, or difficulty for exercises you already have!
