How to Beat Emperor Naro

Defeat Emperor Naro in Witchfire with this detailed boss guide. Learn his attack patterns, phase strategies, and time attack tips.

Emperor Naro is a formidable boss with distinct phases and attack patterns. A 40-second cutscene precedes the fight (skippable after a patch). His first phase has a predictable rhythm, while his second phase introduces more varied and dangerous attacks. The key to victory lies in understanding his routine and exploiting openings.

Time Attack Tips:

  • Gold Time: 02:05.00
  • Silver Time: 02:20.00
  • Bronze Time: 02:45.00

Phase 1 Strategy (Above 50% Health):

Naro's pattern is consistent as long as he doesn't grab you. He always leads with a punch. You can get two hits if you do an imperfect boost to hit him up and down. The pattern before he reaches 50% health (saled by thunder) is:

  1. Punch: Hit him twice (you can even walk up to him).
  2. Leap: Hit him twice.
  3. Float right and skull bombs: Hit him once. Mind that the skulls appear on the inside of the level.
  4. Grabs towards left: Chase him to strike. He can reach a bit below him, but he's bad at grabbing you mid-air.
  5. Leaps to left side: Hit him once.
  6. Punch.
  7. Grabs towards right.
  8. Punch.
  9. Leap to right side.
  10. Float left across full stage (two sets of skull bombs).
  11. Grab towards right.
  12. Leap.

You can down his first form in less than a minute if you stay confident and kite the bomb skulls. He can use his half-health skills if you hit him hard enough during this phase.

Phase 2 Strategy (Below 50% Health):

This phase introduces new attacks and variations. He will vary his attacks with a double punch that has a large, ambiguous hitbox. The float will immediately come with lightning, even if interrupted. New attacks include:

  • Punch forward and strike behind: This makes it difficult to reach him; it's better to wait unless you're sure which punch attack is coming.
  • Lightning: During leaps or floats, usually between himself and you on the edge of the screen.

His final form generally cycles between lightning lasers from the left, lightning lasers from the right, and scattered bombs. It's tempting to take only one hit at a time, but you must be brave. Begin the final battle by looping in the first skull ball with your drill for multiple hits, or shaking the drill left to right like with the Magmaworm. You'll have few clear chances after the beginning and need to follow the head even if it looks dangerous. Be the needle in a skull stack, and you'll get the treasure you've been seeking all along.
