Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve features a variety of multirole aircraft, with the F/A-18E Super Hornet serving as the game's cover star. This choice highlights the game's focus on carrier operations. The Super Hornet was selected over the F-35C Lightning II due to its global recognition as a carrier-capable aircraft, partly thanks to its prominent role in Top Gun: Maverick.

In addition to the F/A-18E, players can expect to pilot the dual-seat F/A-18F variant and the legacy F/A-18C Hornet, marking the F/A-18C's first appearance in the series since Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. An unidentified variant of the A-6E Intruder is also confirmed.

While the story emphasizes carrier operations, non-naval aircraft will also be playable, including the F-15J, Su-57, and A-10C Thunderbolt II. The announcement trailer also featured an unidentified Flanker and MiG, though their playable status is unconfirmed.

Several other aircraft are slated to appear but are suspected to be unplayable. These include the E-2C Hawkeye, UH-60 Black Hawk, MQ-19, and the aerial warship Podarge. Despite initial considerations, neither Korean nor Chinese fighter aircraft will be featured in the game.
