Meanwhile, the Republic of Sotoa faces severe environmental crises, leading them to invade the weakened FCU in July 2029.

Players step into the role of a weapon systems officer who, after the death of the legendary FCU ace Jan "Rex" Cope (the original "Wings of Theve"), must assume his callsign and lead Joker Squadron. Operating from the carrier Endurance, the new "Rex" defends the FCU against the Sotoan invasion, facing off against elite enemy units like Shadow Squadron.
